Janet Bennett Obituary

Of Medford died Sunday, July 6, at age 85. after a four-month battle with cancer. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and came with her parents to Medford when she was two. There her family grew to include eight more children. Jennie (to family and friends) helped care for all other siblings, including her oldest brother John who was quadriplegic following a diving accident at age fourteen, After graduating from Medford High, she was trained as a computer programmer at John Hancock where she worked until her retirement. She was a member of the Hancock Quarter Century Club and participated in retiree luncheons there until recently. In her youth Jennie enjoyed roller skating, bowling, and Hancock-sponsored vacation trips. She was an avid movie fan her whole life and usually managed to see all contending films before the Oscars. She looked forward to summer Sunday drives to Plum Island for visits with Bea Donovan and life-long friends Cay and John Hallisey, whose family was her extended family. She was famous among all who knew her for her Scottish scones and shortbread. Jennie was predeceased by her parents and three siblings: Alexander and John Bennett and Jessie Barney. She will be missed by many cousins and her remaining siblings: Bob and Caryl Bennett of Whitefish, MT; Margaret and Larry Grow of Wheaton, IL; Dan Bennett of Lynn, MA; Don and Sue Bennett of Falmouth, MA; and Tom and Stephanie Bennett of Medford, MA. Aunt Jennie is lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews for the good times she lavished on them: ice cream sundaes, movies, and daylong trips to Boston, Canobie Lake Park, and the beach at Plum Island. At Janet's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Donations in her memory can be made to the Africa Inland Mission, Inc., for the ministry of Scott and Eunie Paulson, P.O. Box 178, Pearl River, NY 10965-0178. Arrangements are being handled by the BealsGeakeMagliozzi Funeral Home of Medford. For additional information please visit www.magliozzifuneralhome.com.

Jennie brought laughter, lively and inquisitive discussions and just so much fun to every family get together. I have had the good fortune to spend many of the major holiday celebrations in her company over the last twenty-plus years and it is painful to think about family get togethers without her physically present with us. We love you Jennie
and will miss you very, very much.

We were so saddened to hear of Aunt Jenny's passing.

Aunt Jenny was and will be remembered as a key person in my childhood memories. Always having the time to share with myself and my brother, Alec. We loved visiting as she always had a great venture planned for us.

I will miss her smile, sense of humour and most of all her caring disposition. I will cheerish the memories always. Rest in peace.

Love,

Michelle, Jeff, Shawn and Nicole Morrow
