He is that fallen lance that lies as hurled,
That lies unlifted now, come dew, come rust,
But still lies pointed as it ploughed the dust.
If we who sight along it round the world,
See nothing worthy to have been its mark,
It is because like men we look too near,
Forgetting that as fitted to the sphere,
Our missiles always make too short an arc.
They fall, they rip the grass, they intersect
The curve of earth, and striking, break their own;
They make us cringe for metal-point on stone.
But this we know, the obstacle that checked
And tripped the body, shot the spirit on
Further than target ever showed or shone.

Tom, invincible or seemingly so. He was never without a smile or joke. He was far to big for this world and was needed and eagerly embraced in the next by those who went before him. The fabric of your family has been torn but in time will be mended with the threads of your memories.
Father, pa, brother, uncle, cousin; it makes no matter the title he held in your life. What matters is that he was in your life. You may never know how - but rest assured your life is better for having known him.
Tom, you were different than any man I've ever known or will ever meet. You were one of a kind. Although more than one of your children carries your quick wit and un-assuming posture - your persona can never be duplicated.
As you know I've sent a rock into the hereafter with you - that was a great lesson you taught me early on. It didn't matter the gift but only that you were thought of. You will always be thought of with a smile and the recollection of that mischievous twinkle in your eye.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered "come to me". With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us "HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST"!! Always in our hearts rich,lisa janelle and alicia
