Louise Etheridge Obituary

Passed away on July 7, 2008 of natural causes, with her family present. Leading a full life, Louise was an avid gardener, and the garden at the rear of the Amy Lowell House was named for her. Prior to retirement, Louise was in banking and also enjoyed her modeling and acting careers. Among the many films and TV shows made, her favorite were her roles in Spencer for Hire. In her retirement years, Louise enjoyed her elaborate garden and was a valued volunteer for two decades for John Kerry's campaigns. She considered the Senate staff her family, and she would go to the Senate office in 0 degree temperature with her walker in order to answer Senator Kerry's mail. Louise's favorite restaurant was Tia's on the Boston waterfront, where she made friends of the staff. Born in 1922 in Salem, MA, Louise lived most of her life in Boston. Louise was a member of the 1940 Class of Portsmouth High School and attended her 66th class reunion. She was employed as a telephone operator at Camp Langdon during W.W. II. Louise's husband, Richard Entwistle, a tail gunner on a B-24 in W.W. II, died in 1990 in the Bahamas. Her daughter reminisced: "My mother and father used to dance in jitterbug contests at Hampton Beach in the late 30's and early 40's". Many people feel that she brightened a room just by being there. Louise has left behind two daughters: Pamela Entwistle Keenliside of Atlanta and Richie Lee Wilson of Boston. Nieces and nephews include Phillip Carey, Bruce Carey, Lisa Carey, Debi Robinson, Mark Robinson, and Kim Robinson. She also left four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements handled by The Langone Funeral Home.

Thoughts of Louise and her smile will always be with me . Many years have passed since we worked together at 1st Federal but she always found time in her life to keep in touch and wish my family well.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I worked with Louise at 1st Federal S&L early in my career. What a class act she was! Dressed to the 9's, panache galore and always a smile on her face. I remember, too, that she had such grace while walking in high, high heels. May Louise rest in peace - she made a difference in many lives, mine included.

I never met Louise, but have heard about her all my life, and always about how wonderful she was. I was sorry to hear of her passing. The pic in her obit is one I have seen many times at my parents' (Fred and Betty Beals) home in Mishawaka, IN.

We know Louise from several campaigns... she was tireless and brought optimism and energy to everyone in the room. Every time a mailing seemed overwhelming or the latest poll seemed ominous, she would say "Don't you worry about a thing, sugar, Mother's here." She was a classic and will be missed.

We will so miss our dear friend Louise. She was such a part of our life. We will also miss her laughter, sense of humor, holiday cards, birthday cards and that bright beautiful smile that filled the room with light.

We truly love you Louise.

Louise would truly light up a room and brighten everyone's day when she came to a doctors visit at Mass. General West's office on Cambridge street. I enjoyed talking gardening with her and would stop by her"Special" garden on my way to the train at north station. May she rest in the Peace of the Lord.
