Angelo Paradiso Obituary

Died the morning of July 21, after an illness. He was 87. He lived in Newton for most of his life. Born in Campania, Italy in 1921 to Angelo Rafael Paradiso and Rocca (Giordano), he immigrated to the US via Ellis Island at age 15. During WWII, he served his new country as an army mechanic, work he continued later on as a civilian, most recently at Arcand Motors in Brighton. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. A highlight of his later life was a trip to Red Sox spring training in Florida. Most of all, he loved to watch his grandsons play football and baseball. Ray and his late wife Alice were active in local politics, and their example of civic engagement influenced both of their daughters, Carol Schofield and her husband Alden of Waltham and Mary Paradiso and her husband Jay Janell of Fitchburg. Ray is also survived by his grandsons Mark Schofield and his wife Rachelle of Washington, DC and Steven Schofield and his companion Alaina Trocano of Woburn. His wife Alice died in 1999. Funeral from the Andrew J. Magni & Son F.H., 365 Watertown St, Rt. 16, Newton, Friday at 9:30AM. Followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Newton at 10:30AM. Interment Private. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ray's name would be appreciated and may be made to: The Jimmy Fund, c/o Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, ATTN: Contribution Services. www.magnifuneralhome.com

Ray lived in my home from when he came to America till he went into the army. He was my uncle, but, really much more than that to me, He was closer than a brother. He took care of me, taught me to play ball, taught me to love speed and all the Boston home teams, especially the Red Sox.
He will be sorely missed. He will remain in my prayers forever and I will never forget him

My sympathy to the entire family. I remember "Uncle Ray & Aunt Alice" from many years ago. My Grandmother, Marie(Mary) Paradiso-Cozzi (CT) were related and I have many fond memories of our visits together many years ago. Uncle Ray was a sweet and gentle man and heaven has welcomed home another angel.
Warm and comforting thoughts to you all, Christine Cozzi-James

The sorrow of faithful is not that of permanent loss, but the tender sense of sadness that comes in saying good-bye for now to someone we love. May today's sorrow give way to the peace and comfort of God's love. Praying for friends to comfort you, faith to uphold you, and loving memories to help you smile again.
