Tom, Kathy, and Linda--
It's sadly ironic that I was just thinking of your father yesterday, wondering if the NH tornado had hit Half Moon Lake, so I was surprised and saddened to see the Notice in today's Globe.
I have so many good memories of your dad. He was always taking Tom and me somewhere when we were kids--fishing at Pigeon Cove in Rockport, the annual boat show in Boston, the Fourth of July fireworks in Wakefield, weekends at the lake. I always looked forward to seeing what new Ford he'd bring home to the house on Woodcrest.
He came to my "rescue" when our rowboat drifted away from the raft without us when we were, what, eight and before I really knew how to swim, and again when I drove the snowmobile (always Artic Cat, from what I remember?) off the narrow bridge into the brook on my first solo ride (at night, no less). I remember he got a good laugh out of those two incidents for years after. He was the one that really introduced me to a lifelong love of the Bruins, so I guess I have him to thank for 35 years of Cup-less disappointment.
I last saw him about twenty years ago when I dropped by Half Moon Lake during a trip through NH. He seemed then, as he always did, happiest puttering around that camp house.
Please accept my sincerest condolences and know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
