Greg, I think of you often and do miss your never ending smile. A tough guy but gentle as a dove. Your brothers Brian, Kevin and Stephen gave you the finest eulogy that any one could give. You deserved all their heart warming stories. I wish we could go back to the retirement party for your mother and have a couple of beers together,as we did that night. I was so proud of you ,as I am of your brothers. You are one of the best. Our hearts go out to your Dad (my brother) David, mother Sally, your brothers and your dear wife Jen and your two children, Emily and Gregory . One of our favorite memories of Greg was when he took a video of everyone with the camcorder, just like Uncle Frank.
God be with you,
Nancy and Frank Porter ( Sagamore Beach Ma)

Thinking of you ALL in this New Year. My cousin Greg is simply put-the best! He had the sweetest smile and so much positive energy he brought to everyone he saw. He is missed so very much by everyone. He has the most beautiful wife, Jen and two children, Emily and Gregory whom I adore, and a new addition to the family whom Greg would love- a little puppy Ozzy. Thank you Uncle David for sharing his guest book with us. It is beautiful. Greg, you are missed so very much but you will never be forgotten as the hero you are.

Greg,
Thanks for having my back out there every night, waiting for the tow truck without having to ask, bringing in a medium regular without fail when I was on the desk. Most of all, making us all smile through those long nights.

The mid shift will never be the same without you brother.

To the entire Porter Family, I just wanted to offer you my deepest and sincerest sympathies for your tragic loss. I will always remember Gregory as a young kid and teenager, not the man you are certainly mourning today. He was always so much fun to be around... he would sometimes tag along when Brian, Sal, Matt, Chris, and I would hangout together. A very kind, caring, and genuine soul that the world is definitely poorer without. God bless and best wishes.

Trooper Stephen F Byron, MSP Retired (1974-2001)

July 25, 2008

To Greg's wife, Jennifer, his son, Greg Jr. and his daughter, Emily and the Porter and Wright families,

The members of the Massachusetts State Police offer their deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences for the sudden and tragic loss of Greg. Greg was an outstanding Trooper who performed his duties as a Trooper with Dedication, Courage, Professionalism and Compassion.

In 2006, Tpr. Porter along with several other Troopers participated in the rescue of off-duty Bourne Police Officer Wendy Noyes from her burning motor vehicle. Greg was awarded the Massachusetts State Police Life Saving Award for his action that night.

The Lifesaving Award just highlighted Greg’s dedication to his duty with the Massachusetts State Police. We have lost an outstanding officer.

You have lost a loving husband, father of Greg Jr. and Emily, son, uncle, cousin and friend.

Our prayers will be with you and your family during this very difficult time.
