Mary Joan Welch

In Worcester, July 25, at age 85. With the Sisters of Notre Dame for 66 years. Born in Holden, daughter of the late Walter and Mary (King) Welch. Graduate of Ascension High School, Worcester and Emmanuel College. She also earned a Masters Degree in education from Fairfield University, CT. Longtime teacher in Notre Dame schools, including St. Mark School in Dorchester and many years in CT, where she served as Principal. She leaves a sister-in-law, Barbara Welch of Worcester; nephews, Michael W. Welch of Worcester, James P. Travers of Charlestown and John Welch of Holden; grandniece, Elizabeth Welch, grandnephews, John, Patrick and Peter Welch and her Sisters in Religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame. Her siblings, John E. Welch, Mary K. Travers and Joan E. Welch, and a nephew, John Travers, predeceased her. Calling hours Wednesday, July 30, from 3:30-6 PM at the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester.
