I did not know Bob, but he was a Medford Institution through many of his successes. My older brothers, Richard (Dick Drennan) and Bob both knew him from those memorable successes, and Bob knew him from his coaching at Harvard where he, too, attended and played football in the early 40's both before and after the 'war.' Bob (RIP) attended Bob M's funeral and later saw some of the young men who attended the funeral when he was at Butterick's getting some ice cream. Bob said they called him by name and stood with him recalling some of the past history of Medford athletics. Both sad passings but but prayerfully remembered. ann (Drennan) forsyth

Coach Margarita taught his players valuable lessons beyond the classroom: discipline, pride, team play and fairness. He put his players first and beyond just winning a game. His legacy lives on in all the people he has touched.

One of the simple joys I have always had is watching the sunset from the front window at 21 Elizabeth Road. It sets right behind the Margarita house on Drury Lane. So, remembering your Dad & family will be associated with a thing of beauty. I knew your Dad first as Mimi’s father when Jannie, Louise and I used to play in the yard. I knew him as my teacher, a great storyteller, and an artistic soul. As an adult I knew him as a great neighbor, with an infectious smile and enthusiasm for life. A life well lived!
A sad irony is that he passed away a year to the day that my mother died. Two gentle souls that put a lot of love into our neighborhood. We were all blessed to be part of it.

As the current Chairman of Harvard's Visiting Committee on Athletics and one whose freshman football experience, 1956, was made memorable by the decency and abilities of gentleman Coach Bob Margarita, I convey my deep sympathy and prayers for Bob's peace and for the stength of his loved ones.

I am saddened by the news of Coach Margarita's passing. My heart and condolences go out to his family, colleagues, and all those who came into contact with this gentle and generous man.
Coach Margarita did me a great service in my senior year of football in 1967. The Middlesex League decided to forego the quarterback position in naming the all-league team. He stood up for me and persuaded them to name me to the team as a safety (yes, players still played both sides of the ball then). I am grateful for that consideration and will always have the greatest respect for him as a coach, a teacher, a father, and a man.

Hello All,
I want to thank all of you for all of your support and kind thoughts and words. Last night's wake saw some tears, but honestly, more laughs as we all shared so many wonderful memories and stories. As we expected, generations of former players and students came through and expressed their sympathy for us and their admiration and love for my father. We are sad to lose him, of course, but know we were so lucky to have had him.
Peace and love to you all,
Dan Margarita

Dear Jean and Margarita family,
I send to you my deepest sympathies on the passing of your father. I have fond memories of your dad as I grew up across the street, as always a pleasant man who cherished his family. Your dad was always smiling and positive in my memory. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Dear Dan & Family,
My sincere condolences to you. Bob
and I worked together while he was
equipment manager and I was the ticket seller at the High School basketball games. He always pulled up a chair beside me and we solved
the world's problems with our chats.
I don't know anyone who was more
loved and respected than Bob. He was my friend and I still miss having
him sitting next to me at the games.
You are a very lucky family to have
had him for your Dad. May he rest in
peace.

Dear Margarita family -
It was with both sadness and a bit of nostalgia that I read of your beloved dad/granddad's passing. Bob enjoyed a wonderful reputation for many years among those athletes who passed through the halls of Medford High and Brown University. I called my brother, Bob Drennan, last evening. He now lives in Medford but often misses obituaries in the Globe. I bring them up daily, but we shared some reminiscinces of your dear Dad.
This is rather long but worth sharing.
After WW II, my brother Bob returned to Harvard to complete his education, and when he went to football practice, he was pleased to see that your Dad was the Line Coach there!!! - a well known former Medford athlete, and, as he recalled, a member of the Chicago Bears team of an earlier day.(??) While at Harvard, he coached that team of young veteran players who would later gain much public renown such as: Robert Kennedy, Kenny O'Donnell, Federal Judge Mazzone, Wally Flynn and others along with my brother Bob. I am certain your Dad shared many of those and other memories with you over the years.
Of course, his greatest legacy is his wonderful family! And now, Bob is joined with his lovely wife, his parents and siblings and other ancestors who have preceded him into those Heavenly Halls. And with greater joy, he is now united with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as well. What joy and laughter are heard in that wonderful Kingdom of Salvation!!! They have been awaiting his arrival!!
With deepest sympathies and prayerful blessings for you all in the coming days -
Mrs. Ann (Drennan) Forsyth (Germantown, TN)
Mr. Robert M. Drennan (Medford)

It is with deep sadness that I offer my condolences to the Margarita Family.
Mr. Margarita was the most kind, patient and caring teacher I have ever had. He inspired me more than any other individual with the exception of my own father. He will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you, Mr. Margarita, May God Bless You.
