Dorothy Merrill Obituary

Died peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, NH, her home for the past year. Dotty was the daughter of the late George H. Merrill & Ellen E. (Swim) Merrill. She was predeceased by her sisters Lillian Merrill McNaught and Hazel Merrill Budd, her brothers George Merrill and John (Herb) Merrill, & her nephew John (Jack) Merrill. She is survived by her nieces, Diane Seagren and her husband Leonard, Joan Bouley and her husband Arthur, Margaret Twomey and her husband Paul, her nephews, David Twomey and his wife Betsy, Robert Twomey, Jim Merrill and his wife Sue and Joseph Merrill. She was also survived by many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all her family. Born on May 14, 1914 in Swampscott, MA, she was a lifelong resident of Winthrop, graduating from Winthrop High School, Class of 1936 and Bryant & Stratton School, Class of 1939. For most of her adult life she was an administrator at Brandeis University. Dotty was a member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club, where she was considered the matriarch, The Winthrop Hospital League, the Winthrop Historical Society and the Winthrop Council on Aging. A visitation will be held from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop, Monday, Aug 4th, at 9 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10 AM. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115. Maurice W. Dotty was one of the most sincerely nice people I had the pleasure of knowing down the CPYC in the day's of Ralph Baker. They were a great team, it is an honor to say I knew them both. They will be together again. My condolences to the family.
