John S. "Jack" Powell

John Powell Obituary

Of Dover, died July 15, 2008 peacefully at home. He was 83 years old. Jack was a WW II veteran & longtime Dover resident. He graduated from Roxbury Lain School & Harvard University. He was a past president of C.H. Powell Co., a successful freight forwarding company founded by his father, Charles H. Powell. Jack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean (McKearney) formerly of Lowell. He also leaves 3 children; John S. Powell Jr. of Gloucester & his former wife Maggie Powell of Merrimac, MA, Nancy P. Dodson & her husband Marc of Dartmouth & Richard H. Powell & his wife Katie of Knotts Island, VA. Jack also leaves 4 grandchildren & 2 brothers, Paul Powell of Westwood & Peter Powell of Wellesley & several nieces & nephews. Jack enjoyed traveling & with Jean visited many places around the world. They also spent many good winters in Florida. He was an avid gardener & animal lover, traits which he passed on to his children. During his last years he enjoyed his bonsai trees with frequent trips to N.E. Bonsai in Bellingham. There will be a memorial celebration at a future date. Donations may be made to Mass. Audubon Society, 208 So. Great Rd. Lincoln Ma. 01773 or Beacon Hospice 160 Speen St. Suite 202, Framingham Ma. 01701. Arrangements by John Everett & Sons Funeral Home Natick.

Mr. Powell,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
