Bernice Slomski Obituary

70, of Hudson, formerly of Sudbury, passed away on August 3, 2008, surrounded by her family at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. Born March 8, 1938 to Bernard and Marguerite Brudie, she grew up in Teaneck, NJ, as a tomboy and a high school cheerleader. She went on to graduate from Cazenovia Junior College in upstate New York where she sang in the college quartet. After marrying Joseph Slomski in 1959, she moved to Willis Road in Sudbury where she lived for 32 years. Their years in Sudbury created a tight-knit group of friends who enjoyed dinner parties, bridge club and days at the Greenwood swim club. After her husband passed away in 1981, she bravely met the challenge of continuing to raise her four children and sending them all to college. She worked as a secretary in the Town of Sudbury Building Department for 16 years before retiring in 1997. Bobbi had an insatiable thirst for culture and had many talents, most notably quilt-making, knitting, painting, crafting, and cooking. She was an active member in garden clubs, book clubs, needlework and quilting groups. A number of her quilts were selected for display last year at a juried craft show at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell. She was known more than anything for her dedication to her children and grandchildren. Her sense of humor, wisdom, strength, and beautiful artistry will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sister Marilyn Evans of Los Altos, CA, her four children and their spouses, Cheryl and Jim Roberts, of Tulsa, OK, Robin and Jack Taylor of Malvern, PA, Cori and Scott Brown of Hopkinton, MA and Jeff and Karyn Slomski of Auburn, MA, several nieces and nephews, and ten grandchildren ranging in ages from 2 to 15 years old. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church at 20 Church Street in Hopkinton. The burial will take place at the New North Cemetery in Sudbury. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends. The Callanan-Cronin Funeral Home of HOPKINTON is in charge of arrangements.

I was so saddened to hear about Bobbi. She was such a wonderful addition to our knitters' guild meetings and joined us in our 'Vivian Hoxbro' knitting nights where she showed her wonderful Wingspan Shawl. It was such a beautiful piece and she was rightfully proud of it. My condolences to all her family.

To All of Bobbi's family,

Bobbi and I were rommates at Cazenovia and I last saw her a few years ago at a reunion a group of us had in Vermont. It was such fun to see her again and we made plans to reconnect as I live in Newport RI & she had a friend here.

I had attempted to call her about a month ago to come to Hudson and have lunch with her but there was no answer at her home and her email was returned to me.

The news of her death just reached me last night or I would have come to the service today.

She was such a delight and I have wonderful memories of a time long ago and am only sad that I didn't get to see her more recently.

Very sincerely,

Michael Cronin

Dear Cheryl, Robin, Cori and Jeff,

A sadness and sense of loss gripped Laurie and me when we read of your Mother’s passing. Bobbi and Joe imparted a cheerfulness and joy to our Sudbury neighborhood that helped make it such a special place for us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we trust you will cherish the memory of her bright smile and ready wit, as we will.

Prayerfully yours, Corky and Laurie Cronin (Mr. Quack Quack)

I just to tell you all that it was a pleasure and blessing for me to meet Bobbi. I think she knew how to find something to celebrate in all circumstances, and that is what I will most remember about her.
