She was my Mother's Aunt, my Great Aunt, although she had come to be my friend over the most recent years. I will miss our times together.
She once sent me this. Definition when I asked her "What does Sisu really mean?"
She was full of Sisu in every sense of the word. Let's hope she's passed it along to us.
SISU:
"Sisu is much more than fortitude. It's an old characterization used by the Finnish people, maybe for the last ten thousand years. Jean Sibelius once likened sisu to a metaphysical shot in the arm which makes a man [or Woman] do the impossible.... the mystifying four letters... as something that surpasses fearlessness... an extraordinary endurance, a kind of inner fire or superhuman nerve force which includes courage, tenacity, stubborn determination, energy, and a will [and ability] to get things done."
Now if that doesn't describe Eleanor, I don't now what does! Keep in mind along with SISU, she did it with style, grace and a smile on her face. Having a good time enjoying life.

Skip, I'm sorry for the loss of your mother. I have pleasant memories of your mother. She seemed to be a fixture at Maple St. Congregational Church, involved in many things there. I always see her smiling, easy to talk to and so upbeat. I believe I see her personality in you as well. Hang on to those good memories. We both are so lucky to have had our parents live so long. My best to you and your family. Marj

We know there are family & friends in heaven to greet her....Hopefully there is Baseball too so she can be happy there!
We are proud to have been part of her life and happy her family was able to help her transition to her new "home" with love and dignity.
Our thoughts are with each of you during this difficult adjustment period. May you each hold fond memories of her in your hearts forever.

I was very sorry to hear that your mother has passed away. Eleanor was a wonderful, kind and loving person and everyone loved her. Eileen Robinson and I had so much fun fishing with her and wouldn't you know it, she always caught the first fish! When I moved to Florida and came back for visits, Eileen would always make sure she brought me over to visit with Eleanor. Your mother will always be remembered with that big smile on her face.

Skip, I'm saddened to hear of your mother's death. Although I really didn't personally know her, she certainly raised a terrific son and I'm sure your family is going to miss her. My deepest sympathy to all.
