For my beloved brother. It has taken this long for the lump in my throat and the pain in my heart to ease. I wish we had lived closer, so we could have visited more often. I wish we spoke more often. I wish we had laughed together. I wish we had cried together. I wish we could have talked about anything that came into our heads, jokes, family, politics, grandchildren, damned Mondays, warm beer, how awesome the beach is on a really stormy day. If wishes could ease the pain, I would be fine, but I'm not.
I miss you Steve, and love you more than you could have ever guessed.
Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

Grandpa,
I know that there were many things that went unsaid, one of them being thank you. Thank you for being the supportive and caring father to my mother, one of the most important and influential figures in my life. I know it meant a great deal to her that you were in her life. Thank you for sacrificing a place to stay so I had one when I needed it. I will always be eternally grateful to you for that.
Although I may never have said it, deep down I have always had a place for you in my heart no matter how distant I may have appeared. In passing I know you are now finally at peace and no longer in pain. My heart aches for my grieving family in this time of sorrow but I know you will always be with them if not in mind always in spirit. Please be sure to take care of my Uncle B for me and let him know I miss him a great deal and still think about him every day. I'm glad to know he's finally with the father he loved so much.
