Gertrude Emerson Obituary

Of Wellesley and Duxbury, died on August 15, 2008 at the age of 85. Raised in Newton, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Henrietta (Fredericks) Myers. She was a graduate of Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Class of 1941, received her Bachelors Degree from Smith College in 1945 and her Master's Degree from Boston University in 1946. Mrs. Emerson was a former president of the Friends of The Wellesley Free Libraries, member of the Duxbury Yacht Club, Smith College Club of Wellesley, Wellesley College Club and a longtime volunteer with the Channel 2 Auction. She was the wife of the late Hobart B. Emerson, Jr. and is survived by two daughters, Deborah Emerson Pinkham and her husband David of Barrington, RI and Martha Emerson Wells of Natick; and five grandsons, Eric Wells of Natick, Jonathan Wells of Brattleboro, VT, Nicholas Wells of Natick, Philip Wells of Laurel, NY, and James Pinkham of Barrington, RI. She was also the sister of Charles B. Myers of Boston and the late Henrietta Myers Leonard and is survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the J.S. Waterman & Sons & Waring Funeral Home, 592 Washington Street, Wellesley. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 11:00am in the Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut St., Newton with burial following in Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to the Friends of The Wellesley Free Libraries, 530 Washington St., Wellesley, MA 02482. Please visit her online memorial at www.mem.com. J.S.
