Hi Charles. I took care of your mom at Youville and I've been waiting to hear an update after she was sent out to Boston. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. I enjoyed working with her and caring for her. She was such a gentle woman. I hope that her passing was peaceful and you and your family are healing. You remain in my thoughts.

Charles, Romeo and Katrina
I met Marie in the early 70's and tried to convince her to move back to New Orleans when she retired. I took her around to show her houses and neighborhoods that were closed to her as a child. I think she toyed with the idea, but her love for Boston and her life there in Boston and her family in Boston had a stronger pull. I saw here on her last visit to NOLA and I am grateful to have had that time. She was colorful and pulled no punches. You were blessed to have had her in your life.

A Letter to my Mother

Mum, when I was a child I made up my mind to say “I love you” to you as often as I could. Running out the door…”Love you Mum.” Hugging you hello…”Love you Mum.” Trudging off to bed…”Love you Mum.”

You were the best thing in my little world. The one who tucked me in, taught me my prayers, wished me “sweet dreams.” “My m\Mommy can do anything” is what I remember from a childhood conversation with my aunts.

I’m older now and wasn’t always right there to say as many “Love you Mums” as I should, but I am more aware of your awesome influence in my life as each day passes.

Now I understand the kind of love that waits to hear the door close at night…the kind of devotion that sacrifices unconditionally for a child and his dreams… and a kind of family legacy rooted in strength, determination, pride and most importantly…LOVE.

I know it wasn’t easy always being there for me but I want you to know that I appreciated you. My anchor, my sail my very vessel progresses because of you. You are my hero and my role model.

The “Love you Mum” I offer today understands the sacrifices you’ve made. It apologizes for the times I caused you worry or concern. And it assures you that no matter where I am…No matter how grown up I think I am…you’ll always be “my Mommy who can do anything” and I’ll always be your child.

And every time I think of you, I’m always saying, from the bottom of my heart, “I love you Mum, I love you Mum, I love you Mum.”

We started out as being Church friends, teaching CCD classes together and became extended family. We are going to miss our Sunday brunches after Mass. But I'm glad you're at peace now.
