Ernest Gavel Obituary

72, of Osterville and Ft. Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Winchester, MA, died on Aug. 18, at Cape Cod Hospital, after a brief illness. Beloved husband of Patricia (McDonald) Gavel for 45 years. Devoted father of E.J. and William L. Gavel of Tucson, AZ. Loving grandfather of Gregory J. and Jared W. Gavel. Brother of Maureen E. Gavel of Cambridge. Ernie was a graduate of the Brown & Nichols School in Cambridge and Bentley College. He was a Navy veteran, serving during the Berlin Crisis. He loved to sail, and was a member of the Wianno Yacht Club. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Wianno Ave., Osterville, on Friday, Aug. 22, at 11 AM. Visiting hours will be in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Rd., (Rte 28), MARSTONS MILLS, on Thursday from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nativity Preparatory School, 39 Lamartine St., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130. For info: johnlawrencefuneralhome.com
