William Martin Obituary

Age 79 of Dover, NH formerly of Watertown, MA passed away at his home in Dover, NH on August 25, 2008. Beloved husband of 55 years to Helen J. (Martocchio) Martin, formerly of Watertown. Father of William Glen Martin of Oxford, ME, Marie Ellis of Merrimack, NH, Janice Martin of Middleton, MA and Laurie Seavey of Dover, NH. Brother of William Grady Martin of Yuma, Arizona. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Memorial visiting hours will be held on Friday 5 to 8 PM in the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main St. (Route 20) WATERTOWN, MA. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday August 30 at 10:30 AM in St. Patrick Church, 212 Main St. (Route 20) Watertown with Military Honors. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to; Sea Coast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. To Helen and the Family- I loved working with Bill at Sears, he could always make me laugh and get my spirits up during down times. He had wonderful stories about all of his family and friends. Living many years across the street from the Martins while growing up, I have so many memories. I'll never forget all the amazing 4th of July parties, amazing fireworks displays, so much fun! Also watching you give your grandchildren rides on the your old rider mower. They loved that! You were always so much fun, cracking jokes, making others laugh. I thank you for all of the laughter. I'm comforted that you are at peace...you will never be forgotten. I extend condolences from the whole Scherer family....especially my Dad who is unable to join us today.

I will remember my Uncle Bill as always having a smile and laughing. My sisters and I still remember him coming at us as a joke with a rolled up dishtowel and wow could he swat, then he would laugh and laugh. Somehow, no matter how hard we tried, we could never get him back! His family meant the world to him and were the center of his life; I remember when Laurie and Marie moved out of the house to Andover so long ago and he was just devastated. He knew how to enjoy life with his beautiful Helen at his side and we spent so many weekends at their home; I so looked forward to spending the summer at theirs as a child. I am so proud to have had this man as my favorite uncle and am glad he was such a big part of my life. Thank you, Uncle Bill. You will always be in my heart.

Helen, Glen and family. I just got the message from Marshall this morning. I am so sorry to hear that Billy has passed. He was a great influence on me in my relative "youth" and I always admired his resourcefulness and sincerity. My Dad has moved to North Carolina with my brother and his family. I'll pass the sad news on to them later today. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule, it's unlikely that I'll be seeing you to express my regrets personally. Please know that I'll keep him and you in my prayers.
