Dear Merrill, Caitlin and Megan,

My heart is saddened to hear of Rick's passing. I am an old friend of Peggy and his Mother, and a fellow cancer patient. I met Rick only once briefly several years ago. After Peggy told me of his illness, I emailed him and we shared some of our experiences and ideas regarding treatments. His faith was so strong and his strength and determination was simply amazing and an inspiration to me. And he loved all of you so much. Peggy told me that his greatest wish was to see his daughters graduate high school and then begin college. I am so happy he was able to realize that dream. You will be in my prayers.

It has been 4 years since I left McKesson, but Rick stands out as one of the finest colleagues with whom I have had the pleasure to work. Tall and proud, quiet demeanor and absolutely professional in his approach to work. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Dear Merrill, Caitlin and Megan,

I am saddened by the news of a great colleague and friend. In the last several weeks I would come in to see if today would be the day that he would be back sitting amongst us again. Know that he fought a good fight.

He shared so many stories of Caitlin and Megan, for who he carried so much pride. He would stop by and tell me the latest college that they were looking at and praying that they wouldn’t land in different directions on the same weekend. As I walk by his cube today my head hangs low, know that we will miss him dearly.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks to come.

We loved Rick and will miss him so much. He's been such a good friend to us for the past few decades.

His love for the three of you knew no bounds. Megan and Caitlin, he was so proud of all your achievements. He would want you to continue with your lives as though he were still here. He'll always be with the three of you.

Dear Merrill, Caitlin and Megan,

It is with great sadness that I write this note. Rick was a wonderful person and a terrific colleague. He will be missed at McKesson.

Over the years, I enjoyed many conversations with Rick about being a parent. I have two young daughters and he would give me lots of great tips and advice. I will miss those conversations. I got the sense that he was a wonderful father to his girls...and he was certainly very proud of you.

Rick was a wonderful, positive person. Even through these last couple of years as he faught this terrible disease.

May the great memories of Rick comfort all of you during this difficult time.

You are in my thoughts and prayers as is Rick,

Dearest Merrill, Caitlin and Megan,

I am one of Rick's co-workers, and was devastated to hear of his passing. I was, as so many others, hoping and willing him to a fast and complete recovery. That sadly wasn't to be.

It was humbling, to say the least, to see the courage, dignity and even humor that Rick had in the face of such adversity. Through your loss and sadness, please try to take a measure of pride from that. Rick faced it head on.

He shared many humorous anecdotes with me, several of which involved Caitlin and Megan, no doubt the Apples of his eyes. Pictures of them at various ages adorn his cubicle. I'm glad he got to see them enrolled in college. I know that made him proud.

He will be missed. You are in my prayers.

God Bless.
