Herbert S. Ober

OBER, Herbert S., age 89, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Newton, on September 3. Loving husband of Meryle (Michaels) Ober, he also leaves his son Lawrence Ober and daughter in law Alyson of Hudson, his sister Florence O. Mann of Newton, stepsons Randy Harrison and daughter in law Ann of Lincoln, James Harrison and daughter in law Elisabeth of Georgetown, three grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Louis and Dora (Goldstein) Ober and brother of the late Ruth Fleischer and Miriam Ober. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a weapons and navigational instructor attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. A man of uncommon warmth and irrepressible humor, he had a passion for the spoken and written word, and a gift for using them to make others laugh. He shared that passion and that gift in retirement as a literacy tutor to children in Sarasota. Memorial service at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, BROOKLINE on Sunday, September 14 at 1 PM. Memorial observance at 210 Nahanton Street, Newton on Sun 5-8 pm continuing Mon 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm.
