I knew Helene in Boston for some 25 years before departing for NM a few years ago. She could light up any room with her 1000 watt smile. I always enjoyed listening to her reminiscences of Harry Belaforte, Sidney Portier, Dorothy Dandridge and other Broadway greats at the American Negro Theatre in New York City, and as a cast member of the 1952 revival of Porgy & Bess. Her 20-plus year long marriage to her husband Donald was a love affair for the ages.
