Uncle Tony, Your passing was a turning point in my life. You were the pillar of strength and the rock of Gibraltor for so many of us, including myself. Joey, Pat, my parents, and I all admire the many accomplishments in your life. You are greatly missed and I am glad that I was able to talk to you last summer before you left us.

Dear Mrs. Marmo, Jane & Paul, Astrid & Bob and the extended Marmo family,
Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. Tony was a friend to my Dad-the late Russell Murphy, and a mentor to my sister Debbie, when she played for the "MassPort Jets" and as years went by, a friend to me personally during the "Ed King years" from the first campaign for MA Governor through the re-election loss and beyond. I enjoyed many laughs, chats and good advice from Tony, at Trav's get-togethers and campaign events. He was a good person, an East Boston icon and I am so grateful to have known him as a friend. I miss the days at the MBTA with Jane and Bob, but hold many fond memories. I am sorry I am 1700 miles away or I would be paying my respects in person. My prayers are with you all. God bless.

Tony Marmo was the backbone of so many teenage girls’ successes. A time when girls did not have any competitive sports programs in place, a time when the culture for girls was to stay home and help around the house.
Team work was a great lesson of his to learn. We learned to never give up the fight for what we wanted or deserved. We learned to never give up the fight to win. We were told that girls couldn’t have Ice time and Tony changed that. Starting the Massport Jets wasn’t enough; he showed them and started the American Girls Hockey League throughout the Boston area. Tony knew that some parents couldn’t afford to purchase hockey equipment and he networked with the Local Police Department and businesses to donate it. I will always remember the banquets and all the successes we had. Tony knew that girls deserved an opportunity to be whoever they wanted to be. He did not see woman as weak and subservient. Even though the years have gone by, I will never forget the lessons I learned from Tony Marmo; they have helped me be who I am today. I will always have the Determination, Motivation and the Strength to work for what I want as well as for others, and to never give up the fight for what is right for me and for others.
Tony you will always be in my Thoughts and Prayers, till we meet again.
Proud to be your 1st Goaltender for the Massport Jets and a Team member of the American Girls Hockey League .

So sadded to hear of Tony's passing. As a teen-ager living on Bremen Street I spent many days at Tony's shop with my 1938 Plymouth or running errands to Chelsea for parts for Tony. He was such a gregarious fellow as well as his cohorts who made a veritable club house of the repair shop. I also delivered newspaper to Fred when he lived inthe Maverick Street housing project, now gone. I would collect for the week's delivery on Saturday mornings and Fred would have books strewn all over the living room floor as he studied to become so succeessful in his chosen field. I just clebrated my 80th birthday four days before Tony died. Hardly a week goes by but that contemporaries of mine pass. Tony left his mark in Eastie that will survive many other generations of newly minted "immigrants". I give my Mass and Communion for Tony when he is greeted by our dear Lord.

I believe as Martin Luther King believed that a person is judged not by his race or color but by the content of his character. What an honor to have been called a friend of Tony Marmo.
My sympathies my prayers are for Tony, his family, my friend Trav. and the many people who called Tony their friend.
May, our Lord, our God and Savior Jesus Christ embrace Tony and lead him to his heavenly home.

Tony Marmo played a significant role in my teenage years when I was privileged to play on the Massport Jets women's ice hockey team. Tony taught me self-determination, teamwork, discipline, and the will to win. Without Tony, I would not have been able to get an athletic scholarship to go to Colby College. Thank you, Tony, and rest in peace. Love, Steph Vrattos

So sorry to hear of Tony's passing away. He had a million stories that he told me and others when we hung out at REVERE BEACH. He certainly was a very active guy. And of all the pols who he helped it seemed to me that Bobby Traviglini was his favorite. Wait for us in heaven Tony .
