Several years ago I lost my closest friend of 34 years and found the adjustment verry difficult. It may well have been divine intervention but shortly thereafter Joan entered my life. She had known the deceased well. Over these past months we have visited.talked many times and exchanged symbolic gifts of appreciation and love. I have never known another who possessed the joy of life and the sensitivity of caring. She had a rare talent of expression in the written word words which will continue to comfort. My life has been enriched and she will continue to walk with me in spirit until we meet again.

I knew Joan from Saturday Art Classes at the MFA in Boston.
Joan always greeted me warmly when I'd arrive to teach. She'd be setting up her room and supplies for class. We would chat quickly and tell each other to, "Enjoy your class!"
She would always be around after class and if I had time, we wold touch base on how our classes went. Usually she would be helping a student figure out how to put his or her assemblage together.
One of my students, Michael, had taken her class and occasionally would go up to visit with Joan.
I will miss her presence when I return to teach in January. I will try to pass on the encouragement she always gave me on those Saturdays.

Tom D. and I know Joan from her association with the Dedham Arts Society. A nicer person never walked the earth. She also made some mean chocolate chip cookies. We'll miss you dearly!

I taught with Joan at Walsh Middle School in Framingham. I was a new teacher just starting out and she was an outstanding role model for me. She was a wonderful, caring, guiding light for many children who needed someone to listen to them and support them. She was a compassionate woman who worked daily to make the lives of everyone around her better. I was sad to hear of her passing and send my thoughts and prayers to her family and friends. God Bless.

I was honored to teach with Joan in the ACE program for 13 years. Her passion for her work and her love of the kids were something I always admired in her. From picking up kids and bringing them to school if they weren't there at the start of the day to always giving them a sympathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on, Joan MacKay was a credit to her profession. Framingham Public Schools had a saint in their midst.

I will remember Joan as a truly beautiful person in spirit and in body. She was so well loved by her Class of 1956 colleagues at FTC. God love her.

Joan MacKay was my dear friend for 35 years. There wasn't one time that she wasn't there for me. Her heart was as big as her soul, her kindness and goodness shown through everything she did. She was the best teacher that Framingham ever had and I will miss her all my life.

Joan was a truly remarkable person. I taught with her for many years and admired her. She had such a talent for living. I was also struck by her deep compassion for all - people and stray animals alike. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Joan was one of a kind!

To the family of Joan MacKay
Miss MacKay was my 8th grade social studies teacher back in 1970 at what was then known as "Lincoln Jr. High School" (now the building is home to the Danforth Museum).
I don't really remember all of my teachers from those years, but she was someone who's spirit touched mine. Her kindness, caring and enthusiasm has stuck with me through all the years. I have never seen her since those years, but have never forgotten her passion for "getting through" to her students.
May your fond memories of her light up your hearts forever.
I am very sorry for your loss.
