I shall always miss Marylin's wit, style and the grace she brought to every moment together.

I have been saving Marylin's correspondence for quite some time now, as if the decorated envelopes, letters, original recipes (e.g. how to prepare roast cupid on Valentine's Day), and annotated articles will help me to keep her close by. In conversations, she has made me laugh, cry, and share truth as well as fantasy. She has been a great friend and I will miss her terribly. But her full engagement with work and life will hopefully be an ongoing inspiration.

To Marilyn's Family,
Jay and I were saddened to hear from the Darst's about the passing of your mother. We lived in the flat below hers from1989 to 1994. Your mother was a vibrant, creative and fascinating woman. Since we have had our two daughters, I have been diligently collecting her picture books and when I read them to our children, I think fondly of your mother.
I hope you find joy in her blessed memory.
Remembering Marylin without humor is missing a very special part of her. Not many people knew about her years in Las Vegas. I know she would have done the same for me.

Marylin made my bunnies come to life. She married wit and line in her wonderful illustrations.

Dear Abby and Doug,
Our sincere sympathy. Not a day goes by that I do not think of my mom and I look around the house and have remembrances in every room. Our thoughs go out to you.
Sincerely, Candy and Jeff, Chris and Kelly and Randi and Phil and associated animals!

I am already missing my dear friend, her many identities, her sense of humor, her brilliant mind and her thoughtfulness. We shared an ongoing correspondence and series of phone messages of fictitious identities. I attach one of the photos that made her laugh.

As Marylin's plumber for almost 25 years, I will miss the lively visits to her many homes. I will also miss the punishing notes sent promptly after my bills arrived.

It has been a wonderful privilege, and adventure, working with Marylin on Ladybug Magazine. Molly and Emmett speak for the child in all of us, and have brought joy to so many children over the years. I will miss her, and extend my sympathies to her family and friends.

Marylin's spirit will live on in the thousands of children who continue to adore and befriend Molly and Emmett. Her love of life and all that each day brought her, so evident in her art, must have greatly inspired her friends and family. I only wish I could have met her.

What a tremendous loss to the children's illustration community! I've always admired Marylin's lively, expressive work, and when I met her many years ago, she proved to have the same spirit in her personality. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

What a loss--a lovely, funny, generous woman and a fine illustrator.
She will be missed.
