Christina Farley Obituary

FARLEY, Christina (Savides) Was born on December 25, 1937, in Katerine, Greece. When World War II ended, she and her mother joined her father in America and settled on Tremont Street on the South End of Boston. At the time, she didn't speak a word of English. She attended Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, graduated from Brighton High School and completed her education at a Boston business college. In 1961 she met the love of her life, Bill Farley. Chris and Bill were married in 1962 and drove to California on their honeymoon. Their love of travel took them all over the world. In 1969 they began a family with the birth of their first child, Heather, followed by Tom and Sean, who have blessed them with five grandchildren. Chris wintered in California and summered at their beautiful waterfront home in Cape Cod, her favorite place. Chris lived her life with spirit, grace, compassion and generosity. She loved to be surrounded by friends and all were welcome in her home. For those blessed with the love and friendship of Chris Farley, a brilliant, sparkling, mesmerizing light has dimmed. She will be deeply missed. She passed on in her home, surrounded by family, on October 30, 2008. Memorial Services will be held Monday, November 3rd, at Forest Lawn, at noon. 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068, phone 800 204-3131.

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this page in Chris's book who was my friend for over 30 years. She was the first person I met when I moved into Hidden Hills with my 2 boys and we shared so much love, joy, and sorrow together. I was immediately in a carpool with her for pre school with Sean and my Kevin. My boys considered Chris and her family a stop on the way home from school and always felt welcome there as did I. Chris was my doubles tennis partner for years and a leader in local charity tournaments. She would lead the committee and I would just tag along and help with whatever. . She signed me up for school P.F.C. volunteer jobs and the famous Hidden Hills charity to get new furniture for the community center. She worked tirelessly and never complained about anything. She had a perspective that said community, friendship, and family matter more than anything and I felt she was a mentor and friend all rolled into one. She taught me how to make a pie crust by using the Cuisine Art blender and how to make appetizers using Phillo dough. I had my first Greek food at her house and countless meals along with so many of her regular guests. She loved cooking and I was always amazed how she could cook for over 100 people and take it all in stride and just love it! From Chris, I leaned that attitude makes the biggest difference in all we do I saw her take in friends from all over the world and work them in to her life and share them with her Hidden Hills friends. I watched her talk/cry her way of a a moving violation ticket when we were stuffing mailboxes with a charity flier and a policeman said we did not stop at a stop sign! Even the policeman knew not to argue with Chris. I watched her take care of her very ill friends and her mom with a generosity of spirt, love of life, and never used the word burden. She always gave Bill so much credit for her charity and said how Bill was instrumental in taking care of her parents and others-- whatever the need might be. Chris used to be my walking parter in Hidden Hills and my diet partner, too. I watched her build and rebuild her house until it became the home of her dreams and a place that became party central for her her friends. The Christmas parties were unbelievable and cherished memory for my whole family. Well, I am not surprised that God wanted to take this special daughter back to heaven much too early than any of her friends/family would allow if we could have any voice in the matter.
I will so miss seeing her for the occasional lunch and hearing her voice. She lived life to the fullest and made such a difference by sharing her life and family with me. I will always be thankful for her special friendhip. Mary Galpin
