I remember Mr Sugarman from my elementary school music class over 50 years ago. He was a wonderful, kind teacher who brought many happy memories of music for me. All these years later, I'm sorry for your loss.

To the Sugarman family,
I just learned of your loss and I am very sorry. Mr. Sugarman was a wonderful teacher. Three of my four children studied with him at Lakeside School. I was just so impressed with the skills he taught to the elementary students and the beautiful concerts he organized. He was a patient and kind and truly gifted man. Imagine the creativity he nurtured in so many individuals and the memories they must have of him! I am very, very sad to hear of his passing.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mr. Sugarman was my saxophone teacher from elementary school through high school. He was a wonderful teacher and a truly special person. I have fond memories of playing a duet at the end of each lesson with Mr. Sugarman. He always found a way to make me smile and laugh, despite the toughest days of high school. I think of him often and feel lucky to have spent time with such a kind, inspiring person.

To my Aunt Arlene and my Cousins,

After nearly forty years it is still too hard for me to reach out to anyone, and apparently now I am too late. I am sorry. Sorry for your loss and sorry for mine. Seems like life is ticking away quicker than even I expected. Someday... someday.... but someday never comes, and may possibly never come. But in the meantime I am thinking of you and took some time today to remember all the good times I shared with my Uncle Larry.

With Great Sadness,

Arlene and Family,

Mr. Sugarman was my music teacher for several years while attending Braintree Schools. After years of lapsing in my music, Mr Sugarman took me in as a private student when I was 23.

I have such fond memories of Mr. Sugarman...his patience, humor, talent and his love of teaching.

The world just lost a wonderful, one of a kind man. My love and prayers to you all during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Fitzpatrick (Milligan)

He was a kind, patient, and inspiring teacher and my children will never forget him. It is amazing how many students he has inspired over the years. His dedication to his students was remarkable, even in recent months. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I am deeply saddened at the loss of Larry Sugarman. I took private saxophone lessons with him from 4th grade until I graduated high school, as did my older and younger brothers. I have since graduated college with a degree in audio production and I know I can thank Larry for contributing to my love of music.

I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to Larry's funeral on monday. My name is Sam, and I have been taking lessons from Larry since I was in the fifth grade, and I am currently in the ninth grade. When I first came to Larry I was playing the trumpet. I had never played an instrument before, and that’s when my parents told me about Larry. I went to him for a few months, and by the next year I was on first trumpet in band at my public school, and 2nd trumpet in jazz band. Larry was one of the best teachers I ever had. Larry Sugarman was a happy, dedicated music teacher, a great father, a loving grandfather, and a fantastic person overall. He will be missed greatly by everyone, and I wish the deepest sympathy to his wife, children, and grandchildren.

How saddened I am to hear of the loss of the world's greatest music teacher. I was honored to be a student of Mr. Sugarman and thought the world of him. He was such a kind and generous man. Every Saturday for eight years I had the pleasure of sitting beside him for clarinet lessons. They were some of the best Saturdays of my childhood. I will never forget you Mr. Sugarman. To the Sugarman family, my deepest condolences to all of you.

My beloved brother was a wonderful husband, a great father, and a very loving grandfather; he surely will be missed by all. He was the "Mr. Holland" as in the movie, Mr Holland's Opus, of the Braintree, MA, school system; his dedication to his music students was second to none, and the impact that he had on his students was of great importance. Only once in a lifetime, do you find a man such as Larry Sugarman!
