Emmeline Lowell Obituary

LOWELL, Emmeline M. 90, of Sabino Rd., formerly of Santa Barbara CA died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Hillhouse Assisted Living Facility with her loving daughters by her side. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 10, 1918 the daughter of Henry Spencer and Mabel Keach Moody. She graduated from Dana Hall School in Wellsley, MA in 1936, Skidmore College in 1940 with a Bachelors Degree in English and then attended Tufts Medical School in Somerville, MA. On May 31, 1942 she married Stuart Hingston Lowell in Newton, MA. Together they lived and raised their family in Massachusetts. After raising her family, Emmeline went to work for H&R Block doing tax preparation for more than twenty years. She was an avid golfer and member of the Women's Golf Association and the Dedham Country and Polo Club, she loved playing bridge, boating and spending time in the sun and on the beach. In her younger years she taught boxing to young children. She was predeceased by her husband on November 25, 1971 and a brother Melvin Moody. She is survived by three daughters Elaine Moody Lowell and her husband Dick Gallagher of Dedham, MA and Phippsburg, ME, Suzanne Lowell Popejoy and her husband Thomas Popejoy of Albuquerque, NM, Linda Keach Lowell of Santa Barbara, CA, seven grandchildren T.L. Popejoy of New York, Stuart Lowell Popejoy of New York, Heather Sears Gaitan of Spain, Sam Sears III of MA, Spencer Lowell Sears of CO, Gregory David Campagna of MA, and Dana Lowell Campagna of CA, six Great Grandchildren. At the families request all services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., BATH, MAINE.

I have such fond memories of Emme. She taught my first classes at H & R Block in Dedham. She had a wonderful sense of humor and love of life. I remember her telling me that whenever she bought a new car, she put a gas can in the car and let the tank go dry, so she would know exactly when she had to fill up.
