Betty Jo and Korinne,
I thought of Scott today and a few days ago as I was going through my jewelry with my daughter. I came upon the earrings that match the necklace which I gave you, Korinne, that Scott gave me as a Christmas present many moons ago.
Love Always,

Scott, As I went down memory lane today in high school, I thought of you. Your smile, your heart, your friendship, your silliness, your kindness, well, your everything. Friend, I remembered you by posting a photo in your honor. You will always be in my heart as one of the best guy friends a girl could have. I know it sounds corny, but that was just us. 'Open mouth, insert foot.' A great friend I was fortunately blessed to have known...You are truly missed and always remembered with love and friendship.

I would just like to say that I didn't know Sgt. Scott Metcalf personally, but after today I feel a connection. My name is Aaron Washington, currently in Tampa, Florida. I went with a friend to the Annual Run for the Fallen 5k Walk/Run. At registration, I was given Sgt. Metcalf as the soldier I would be representing. It was such an amazing experience and during my time with the Run for Fallen, I thought about the person Sgt. Metcalf was and what memories he made for his family and friends and needed to come home and research. Seeing many pictures of him with his family has made me so proud to honor him in this way. My condolences to the family and I will forever be honored to have represented Sgt. Scott Metcalf during the 2009 5K Walk/Run For the Fallen in Tampa, Florida.

Scott and I grew up in the Old Guard together, first when he was in D Co and then when he went off to HHC (I was next door in B Co.). I got an email from him just 13 days before he passed on, letting me know he was in Iraq with the 101st ABN. I could go on and on with some of the greatest stories about him.
I'm doing Ironman Louisville on 30 Aug 2009 and raising funds for the Paralyzed Veterans of America for this race, all in his name.
Really miss you Scotty...

To the family of Scott J. Metcalf,
You probably never knew me, but I knew about all of you. I knew about you through the man who was Scott J. Metcalf. I served with Scott during his tour in Texas while he was stationed at Fort Hood. I knew him when he was attached to 104 MI, and we hit it off from the start. With my family still in Georgia and me taking my first time away from my family, Scott took me under his wing and helped me cope with not having family, by becoming my family. He quickly turned into the brother I never had, and we had so much in common it was almost like we were seperated at birth or something. For four years of my life and beyond, I learned to love the man as family and we shared a lot.
With the many other friends that were a part of our circle, we formed a secure place for us to draw strength. He was important to me then, and is still important to me now. It is a shock and a wound to know it took me two months to even hear about this. When I lost contact with him I thought his duties had taken him away. This news given to me today is painful, and it will continue to hurt me for some time to come. But I promise you this :
I will never forget him, and will never forget his face, his laugh or his ever warm atmosphere that followed him around. I do mourn his loss, but I cherish his memory.
Safe trails my brother, you will be missed.

Betty Jo and Korinne, we are so sorry for you loss. We just learned of Scott's passing last night. He was such a great guy, both as a Sargeant and friend, more than once he helped us out of a tight spot, whether it was picking Gabe up for work, or coming over to help us sort things out. We will miss him greatly. I hope that over time you will be comforted, and that you know that you will be together again! We love you guys and miss you very much!

As the loving neice of a fallen soldier who made the supreme sacrifice and left behind a devoted, loving wife and three baby sons, I know your terrible pain. So many fallen men and women who believed in their missions and selflessly gave their lives so that we can have the peace and privledges that we enjoy could never, ever be forgotten. They are forever in our thoughts and prayers and we will be eternally grateful to them all. We will never let their sacrifices be in vain. America is the proudest nation in the world and we respect and remember our own. My prayers and thanks go out to you and your daughter as well because you have also sacrificed and gave us another American Hero. Hold your head high and know we all love you and care. Rest in peace and thank you Sargent Metcalf and God bless both you and your daughter, Mrs. Metcalf and know that you are never alone.

I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt Scott J. Metcalf our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Scott. And to Scott it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Scott, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
