Grant Wheeler Obituary

WHEELER, Grant Walton 67, of Christmas Cove, ME and Ocean Ridge, FL passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2008 with his family at his side. He was the son of the late Lois and Mark Chapman Wheeler formerly of Needham, MA and the husband of Jane Pitcher Wheeler. A graduate of Deerfield Academy, the Univ. of North Carolina, and the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Massachusetts, he was the founding principal of Stock Market Index, Inc. and most recently Portfolio Manager and Senior Advisor of Duquesne Capital Investments. He leaves two sons, Robert Longstreet Wheeler of Sherman Oaks, CA and Scott Wheeler of Woodland Hills, CA, two stepsons, William Ackerman of Marblehead, MA, Robert Ackerman of Andover, MA and a step daughter Elisabeth Dufault of Jackson Hole, WY. Affectionately known as Grandy, G-man, and Hobson, Grant leaves eight loving grandchildren (Molly, Caroline, Billy, Megan, Justin, Leo, Lindsey, and Mark) numerous nephews and nieces, and wonderful friends from all aspects of his life. He is survived by his sister Ann Wheeler Burgess and her husband Russel of Mystic, CT, his brother David Chase Wheeler of Natick, MA, his sister-in-law Pam Wheeler Mitchell of Barrington, RI, and brother-in-law Donald F. Pitcher and his wife Shirley of Hingham, MA. He was predeceased by his brother Mark Chapman Wheeler, Jr. A service in his memory will be held Sat., Nov. 22, 2008 at 11am at the United Church of Christ, River Rd, Newcastle ME. The family requests that donations in his memory be sent to Camp O-AT-Ka, 593 Sebago Rd, PO Box 239, Sebago, ME 04029 or the South Bristol Elementary School, US Rte 129, South Bristol, ME 04568

Jane,

I am so sorry for your loss. Grant was such a wonderful person and I enjoyed speaking to him every week. I don't know if he ever told you this, but I would always call him "The Great One!" He will truly be missed by me.

Karen and I were so sorry to read of Grant's passing. He was a great guy that I worked with many years ago in Boston and socialized with he and Nancy in Marblehead.(Especially the annual Lewis Cup) We will always remember his intellect and outgoing warmth.
