Martin taught my son math. When we were looking for someone to help him with his math homework , we found few teachers that he didn´t like. When we found Martin, the connection was from day one. They didn´t just talk about math, but everything elseThey sat in the around the kitchen table, and I would be in the background cooking and listening to their interesting conversations about history and science, and also about life.
The lessons where, always longer than an hour. No one really looked at the clock. We were all having a good time. Martin Would stay longer and we would talk after the lesson .My husband used to join us too.
We really waited for this special days that Martin came over. He was really a special Saul. so smart, and so humble. We often think of him and his wife Jennie, whom we liked very much. They will always stay in our memory as special and unique people that we were lucky to meet. May their soul rest in peace.Amen!!!!

Dear Vera and Jackie, I was so sad to hear about Martin's passing. You have always treated me like family and I cannot even think of you as anything less. I will always remember our two families traveling together and all the wonderful memories of way too many dinner parties to count. I feel so lucky that our two families came together all those years ago, because I can't imagine my life without having known you. You are in my thoughts and my love goes out to you,

Vera, Jackie, my oldest and dearest..."friends" doesn't suffice because you are all more like family than anything else, and that's what Martin was and always will be to me. I can hear his voice so clearly, feel his presence so vividly, that I know he is still with us. I cannot remember a time not knowing the three of you, and I know the support you have shown me over the years is a product of the love and the strength you share in your own family. I am truly blessed to have known Martin, to have reaped the rewards of the family and friends that gathered around him for his kindness, patience, and warmth. He lives on in you two and that's how I know he'll be with us always. I am thinking of you at this time...I love you both and can't wait to see you over Thanksgiving.

Martin was a true eclectic in every sense of the word. A mathematician, teacher, writer, singer and musician. But what is more important was the person he was, the husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be with us forever in our hearts and minds.

Although I only met Martin once, I have been friends with his daughter, Vera, for years now. Her kindness and strength of character are a testament to his life, as only a loving parent could instill such qualities in their child. My deepest condolences to their family.

As I look back on the 20 years I spent with Martin I can almost not bear to think they are over. I will always cherish the memories of him trying to teach me to ride a bike, him building the most elaborate tree house, and him making Vera and I hot cocoa by the fire
place. My heart aches for his family. I love you all.

To Vera: Honey, I never had the pleasure of meeting your father but I do know he raised a beautiful daughter. It was a joy to have you stay in my home when Rachel was married. My condolences. Jean Herzog

I fondly recall the times when I was a frequent guest at the Broekuysen's, many moons ago. Martin's kindness and genuine warmth always made me feel at home. Vera and family, you are in my thoughts today. Love and hugs to everyone.

Condolences to a dear Broekhuysen family.
Dear Jackie and Vera,
Martin became a part of our lifes when he started tutoring our son Yoni. Before, we had a hard time finding a teacher that Yoni would approve. But Martin was different. His love of teaching and his special approach to anybody he met was unique. A warm and loving man with a great spirit and attitude toward life. Yoni enjoyed learning with Martin and Martin loved passing his great knowledge of so many things to his student. Sometimes they just set around the kitchen table talking about life, school and friends.
We know that special people like Martin are only few and when you have the privilege of getting to know them, you feel blessed.
Dearest Martin, it's hard to say goodbye to somebody so spesial. You will always be in our hart and thoughts.

Martin was a wonderful man and I always greatly enjoyed my conversations with him at your house and our family dinners - his cultural enthusiasm was always inspiring, as was his clear devotion to his family. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by everyone who was privileged to know him, and he and your family are in our thoughts during this difficult time and thereafter. Much love and our condolences to your family.

Dearest Martin, we miss you. Wish we could sit with you again, around the kitchen table, or on a dark Monhegan night, by candlelight, sharing poetry and wine, laughter and friendship. Good moments, good memories, and you are not gone, for you live on in our hearts.
