John Moy Obituary

MOY, John G. 78. Cherished husband of May (Jue) Moy for 56 years, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 surrounded by his adoring family: daughters Carol Daniels and her husband Kelly; Donna Moy-Bruno and her husband Franco Bruno and his son Michael; and Lori Karlsson and her husband Jan, along with his grandchildren Holly Daniels, Natalie Bruno and Mikaela and Nicky Karlsson, all of Framingham. He is also remembered by his brothers Robert Moy of NJ and Sam Moy of MD and their families. Born in Washington, DC in 1929, son of the late Samuel Gong and Evelyn (Ng) Moy, he was raised there and moved to Northboro, MA in 1956. He has been a Framingham resident for the past 42 years. John was a US Navy veteran, held a BS in Industrial Technology, had an illustrious 37 year career at Raytheon and was a longtime member of The Plymouth Church. He was also a dedicated Freemason, who joined Middlesex Lodge in Framingham on March 19th 1968 where he exhibited extraordinary skill in matters of ritual and Masonic leadership. He was elected Worshipful Master in 1973, again in 1991 and was Trustee for the Lodge's funds until his death. John served as Master of the 38th Lodge of Instruction and in 1974 was appointed District Deputy Grand Master of the Marlboro 24th Masonic District. On March 15th, 1994 he was awarded the Joseph Warren Medal for his devoted service to the Fraternity. John was a member of many other Masonic organizations including St. Andrews Royal Arch Chapter, Concord Royal Arch Chapter, Cryptic Council, Natick Commandery and the Allepo Shrine but his true Masonic home was with the Scottish Rite Masons. John joined the Scottish Rite, Valley of Boston on October 16th 1978 becoming a member of Boston-Lafayette Lodge of Perfection, Giles F. Yates Council Princes of Jerusalem, Mount Olivet Chapter of Rose Croix and Massachusetts Consistory. His leadership skills were immediately recognized and he was promptly elected to Junior Warden of Boston-Lafayette Lodge of Perfection and in due time became Thrice Potent Master and CEO of that organization from 1984 to 1987. He was President of the Long Range Planning Committee and President of the Scottish Rite Employment Task Force (1992 - 1994). He long served as Trustee for the Lodge funds. He was coroneted a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, Thirty-Third Degree, in 1987. John was enthusiastic in his charity and a member of the Builders Council for the 32° Scottish Rite Learning Centers for Children which are devoted to the remediation of childhood dyslexia. John's love of life and learning, the passion and commitment with which he pursued his philanthropic endeavors and the intensity of his love and dedication to his family and friends will be forever missed. Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the Plymouth Church, 87 Edgell Rd., Framingham, on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 2-3 PM, with a service at 3 PM. The celebration of his life will continue following the service in the parish hall until 6 PM. Arrangements by Norton Funeral Home, 508-875-7871. Memorials: gifts in John's memory may be made to the Scottish Rite 32° Masonic Learning Centers for Children at 33 Marrett Rd. in Lexington, MA 02421 or to the American Diabetes Association.

Warm thoughts of you Dad..

December 4, 2018

Thinking of you Dad as always - especially during this holiday season. There is never a week that passes without a reminder of you, a song, a meal, a joke, a news article, an event, a milestone with one of your grand kids, something that makes me pause and say, my Dad would have enjoyed that :) So grateful for you, carrying your love with me in my heart everyday..

A Peaceful place....

Stopped in for a quiet chat with you yesterday dad.
Veterans day today- brings back memories of how dashing you were in all the photos of you in your sailor suit and how much you enjoyed the beat of a military marching band...and how as a kid, I enjoyed watching you at those happy moments. It's been almost 7 years of missing you. Love you always and forever.

Dear May,

I am so sorry about the loss of your partner. Death always brings with it a deep sense of finality but in truth is just the beginning. John is with his heavenly father and his legacy lives within all that came in close contact with him. I feel honored to have worked with him in regards to his rehabilitation. In his pain and suffering, he still managed to have a sense of humor. I will miss him. May God bless you May. You are a great example of God's shining light.

John and May attended many reunions of the USS Columbus Veterans Association. I can remember they would come to the reunions with alot of enthusiasm, although they were very quite. I looked for them each year and in the last couple of years they did not come and I missed seeing them. It is with such sorrow to hear of John's passing. To May, I hope only the best for you in the future.

December 15, 2008

It was just last week that Linda and I were reading some Christmas cards from last year. As we read the card from you and John, our thoughts went back to the times we spent together. Including the time we went to the cafe where the chef made the "world's longest noodle"; the Company trip to Rhode Island and your trips to Colorado.
John's intelligence, patience and subtle, but incisive sense of humor made him the best mentor and boss I've had in my 40 year career.
God Bless you John and May!

Dear May,
Linda and I will miss John's wonderful friendship and warmth. Even though we were hundred miles apart, John and I managed to keep in touch with each other by e-mail the past few years, until the night before he departed from us all. We'll always remember his cheerfulness and sense of humor. .

My dearest May, Carol, Donna and Lori;
What a loss we all feel that John is no longer there to inspire us with his upbeat smile, love of life and steady hand. He was the inspiration that introduced me to Middlesex Lodge and to the Scottish Rite. We worked together for several years on the Scottish Rite Employment Task Force and he was my Best Man and best friend as Patti and I were married. The picture is of the four of us together when all was joy and tranquility. These are the days we will remember.

Dick Manelis

December 4, 2008

My first introduction to Middlesex Lodge was when I attended John's 3rd Degree (I think 1968). I was impressed with the quality of the membership....especially the new member being inducted.....and I affiliated shortly thereafter. The measure of a person's life is the extent that he (or she) had a positiive impact on the lives of others. John can be proud of his impressive legacy.

Dear Aunt May, Carol, Donna, Lori, beloved kids and husbands of my dear cousins,
It's no secret that my Uncle John was an amazing man~~I loved his seriousness when it was important to express it; his tenacity in the face of all his challenges especially in the past few years; his thoughtfulness, brilliance and perseverance in communicating his thoughts and ideas even though it was hard to understand his speech at times; his wonderful wit and humor (I'm sure many of us have stories about that!) and his obvious abundant love for his family. I will truly miss my Uncle John~~thank you so much for the wonderful video memories too~~Love and blessings, Peggy (Garland, Sarah and Whitney)

We have only known John for the past 15 years but that short time he has enriched our lives. His dedication to Masonry and his community were unsurpassed. It is my hope that we all can live up to the standards that John has set. We will be all a little richer knowing John and May. They showed what love a dedication can mean in this troubled world.
