Diana Walton Obituary

WALTON, Diana (Powell) Died in Philadelphia, PA, August 1, 2008 of pancreatic cancer. She was 63. Born in Conneaut, OH to Lois and Gerald Powell, she attended Otterbein College in Westerville, OH and was a soloist with Otterbein's A Cappella Choir. She graduated from the Flora Stone Mather College of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. She studied voice at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Metropolitan Opera legend, Eleanor Steber. She sang with Sarah Caldwell's Opera Company of Boston, Boston Lyric Opera and Artists International. She was a soloist with the First Baptist Church In Newton. She earned a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA. She was Director of Human Resources for GPC Biotech, Princeton, NJ. Besides singing, she loved gardening. Vacations were designed around visiting America's finest gardens. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Albie Walton, daughter Vanessa Keefe, and the apple of her eye, granddaughter Lilly Keefe, and brother James Powell. I was in the process of trying to reconnect with Diana when I Googled her. I worked with her at Genzyme and then again at Mitotix. She was a lovely person. I think of her from time to time and always with a sense of joy. I'm sorry to learn of her passing. My condolences to her loved ones.
