Dear Bert, Phil and Jeanne,
For the past 12 years we have called Zylpha Road home for the last two weeks of every August. For many of those years we had the pleasure of being next door to Bud and Bert. He was always there to welcome us back and visit with my four boys. He always had a story, a chore or a hard candy for them. The memories we have of our family vacations are forever tied to Bud and his beach. We will miss him. Love from the Dohertys- Tim, Susan, Max, Owen, PJ and Griffin.

A letter to Bud,
We look over at the landing from our porch and you are not sitting there watching over the beach and deciding who you're going to hand the rake to to clean up the seaweed. Now that your gone, there's no one to spray the deck cleaner on the landing, no one to collect the empty cans or to weed whack the tall grass. Who's going to remind me to cut the rose bushes, paint the rusty nail heads, clean my garage or cut your glass shelves. Audrey promises to you that on any given day the towels in the dressing room will be folded and stacked "the Army way" and ready for your inspection in case you're checking from above. How in the world could anyone miss Field Marshall Chisholm delivering his orders of the day; but, we do. I'll always feel a bit guilty when we go out to a nice restaurant and pay those high prices when we could just as well go to the Hearth and Kettle and get a really good meal for half the cost or to pay $14.00 for a pound of sword fish when we could just as well have a bowl of corn flakes. Bud, there is no one who could ever take your place in our hearts. You made Zylpha Road a nice place to live, work and play. You made it easy for home owners like us with your knowledge of the underground services. You knew who replaced his septic system, where it was located, when the last time it was emptied and how far down you had to dig to find the lid. I'll never forget the first time we met. You told me my grass was getting a little long. I said that we just closed on the house and I didn't buy a lawn mower yet. You showed up ten minutes later dragging your lawn mower behind you. I should have known on that day that you accepted no excuses for not getting the job done. I have been remodeling for 25 years and you were always telling me where to hire my dumpster, where to buy the lumber, who was going to dig my cellar hole, etc. etc. You introduced me to other great workers such as Babe Barrett and Mark London. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the many ways that you made our life on Zylpha Road what it is. You were my surrogate father on Cape Cod and we will never forget you or the many thougthful deeds you did for us and all the people in Harwich Port. You were a great husband, a great father, a great soldier and a great friend. With love and gratitude, Chick & Audrey

My prayers and thoughts are with you. I have many fond memories of Uncle Bud (Bug). I use to call him that when I was little. What time did the turkey go in this morning? With our large family it seemed we needed a turkey that should have been cooked all night. Who won the football game? He will be missed by me very much.

Dear Bert, Phil and Jeanne,
Sorry to hear of Bud's passing we will all miss his presence as "watch" over the beach. It will sadden us to walk down or up the steps without Bud's daily greeting. Nathan will miss him and just do push ups in his memory. Nathan has certainly lost a loyal fan. You are in our prayers.

We have so many incredible memories of Uncle Bud. He was always fun to be around...his calm demeanor was so infective. We will miss him immensely. Our love and prayers go to you all.

We were very upset to hear the news. Our thoughts are with you and our deepest sympathies. The boys bonded with Bud like a grandfather and they were all very upset to hear of his passing. We will remember these last five years fondly.

We will miss Uncle Bud very much. Ever since I can remember, I have always loved to come visit you on the Cape and it warms my heart to know that my children feel the same way. I'll always have fond memories of my Great Uncle Bud. I admired his indomitable spirit and gracious nature. I loved visiting the Cape and seeing friends and neighbors revere the “Mayor of Zlypha Road”. All my love, affection, thoughts and prayers to this kind and devoted man. Included is one of my favorite memories of Uncle Bud and Auntie Bert; dancing at my wedding last December.
