Ruth Bannister Obituary

BANNISTER, Ruth Faxon 77, of Boothbay Harbor and Squirrel Island, ME, died on Sunday, November 23 at a Portland, Maine hospital. She was born in Montclair, NJ, on August 5, 1931 the daughter of Lemuel and Mary Faxon Bannister. She attended Montclair schools and graduated from Colby Junior College in NH. She was employed as a medical secretary in Montclair. Ruth was a life long summer resident of Squirrel Island, ME and considered it her home. She was an active sailor and also spent long hours in her power boat the "Tabasco". In 2001 she moved to St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor to be closer to her dear Island. While in Boothbay Harbor she was a member of the Congregational Church and an active worker at its Food Pantry. She also served for many years on the Squirrel Island Association and on the Chapel Committee. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Lemuel and Henry. She leaves a brother Richard and his wife Ann (Morton) Bannister of Winchester, MA and ten nieces and nephews: Mary and Michael Sullivan, Liza and John Paonessa, Richard Bannister, Jr., Dwight and Lisa Bannister, Henry Bannister and Kyoko Watanbe, Jean Bannister, Gail and Biff Michaud, Sandra Lee Dolan, Barbara D. Bannister and Laura Weber. Burial will be private. A Memorial Service will be held on Squirrel Island at the Squirrel Island Chapel on Saturday, August 1. Donations may be made to the Food Pantry, c/o Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, P. 0. Box 468, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 or to the Squirrel Island Chapel, Squirrel Island, ME 04570.
