Hannah Stone-Carter Obituary

STONE-CARTER, Hannah Morgan Of Portsmouth, NH, age 4, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at the Children's Hospital Boston surrounded by her loving family. Born July 3, 2004, in Portsmouth, NH, the daughter of Stephen M. Carter and Kathleen M. Stone. Hannah's lust for life and joy of play was never overshadowed by her 3 yr journey battling a rare blood cancer. In her short life, her resilience, bravery and strong constitution touched so many people and inspired them to live their lives to the fullest. Her constant vivid energy, wit, intelligence, intuitive mind, beauty, and inner strength were radiated to her family and friends, and they propagated her life force to many she never met. Hannah possessed a special charm. She loved everyone she met and they loved her in return. She always had an enthusiastic "hi" or thoughtful remark for everyone, inviting them into her circle of affection and liveliness. Though cancer struck her three times and treatment requirements were never-ending, Hannah's life was utterly filled with so many joys and fun experiences including: Sea World Make-a-Wish trip; visiting the UNH horse stables; brunches at the Wentworth; abundant projects and crafts; many favorite playground activities; and swinging - but never high enough. She wholly enjoyed the experience of eating eclectic adult foods; chasing seagulls, building castles at the beach; catching butterflies, any bug, worm or crustacean; riding her tricycle; baking cookies and cakes; reading book after book; absorbing every piece of information about all types of animals; and endless games of choreographing everyone in her many imaginary play games. Hannah is a bright light that will shine forever in our souls. Oh how she will be so dearly missed by the many she touched. Hannah was predeceased by her brother Zachariah Carter and Grandfather Robert Woody Stone and is survived by her parents, a sister, Tiffany L. Real and husband Mark of Kittery, ME; her Grandparents Frank and Emia Carter from Keller, TX, and Rita Stone from Greenland, NH. Her Aunts & Uncles: Susan Rysnik and husband John, sons Tylor & Tory; Beth Stone Hancock and her son Bryan; Robert Stone II and his wife Natalie, daughter Chrissy, sons Jason and Matthew; Jennifer Stone and her son Reece; Richard Carter and his wife Mary and daughter Jamie; Tamara Guiso and her husband Brad, son Elliott and daughter Lauren. And Hannah leaves so many beloved relatives, extended family members in the cancer community and adopted families members all over the world, plus so many treasured nurses, doctors and staff from Children's Hospital Boston and the Jimmy Fund Clinic. Visiting hours for Hannah will be held on Thursday, December 4th at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, NH between 4:00-8:00pm and funeral services will be held at the North Church, downtown Portsmouth, on Fri., Dec. 5th at 11:00am. Sympathy messages may be posted to www.jvwoodfuneralhome.com or sent by mail to the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made for research for Hannah's rare blood disease so her friends and other children will not have to face what Hannah did. I don't know guys -- it seems as though kids who die are all pretty special. I do not think that it just seems that way to me because they are dead; and I do see every child as special; but Hannah was so brave, strong, loving and funny that I can't reconcile it with 4 years old. Wherever she is, Emily and Lucy are there too.
