Sara Nadkarni Obituary

NADKARNI, Sara (Geary) Of Wrentham, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at her home, with her family by her side. She was 64. Born in Huntington, Utah, she was the daughter of the late Merlin & Dora (Nielson) Geary. Wife of 40 years to Ravi Nadkarni, she was the mother of Maya Nadkarni, Asha Nadkarni and her husband Jason Moralee, and late Neela Nadkarni, who died in 1993. Sister of Marilyn Wagner, and her husband Dan, of Glenwood Springs CO, and Alyce Childs, and her husband Garth of Huntington UT. Her brothers & sisters in-law are Amar and Sheela Amembal of Newtown CT, Prakash Nadkarni of Danville PA and Rajani Nadkarni of Orange CT. Sara was a homemaker par excellence: an accomplished cook and baker who also enjoyed quilting, crochet, and many other crafts. Her friends knew her for her no-nonsense wit, unconditional support, and fierce games of Scrabble. Devoted to the happiness of her family and of others, Sara brightened the lives of all who knew her. She faced her long struggle with cancer with rare humor, courage, and grace, showing the same courage in confronting certain death that she did throughout her life. She had first faced cancer as a 40-year old with three young children, and over the years she dealt with the courses of surgery and chemotherapy with the positive attitude that characterized her approach to the world, concerned only for her family, friends and the causes she worked for and believed in. Even in her terminal illness, she was a source of strength to all around her, never losing her warmth, her gentle sense of humor and her concern for others. She taught us what the human spirit should be about, and her own spirit will continue to be with us and guide us. She will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name to one or more of the following: Purr-fect Cat Shelter Inc., PO Box 548, Medway, MA 02053; Friends of Wrentham Seniors Inc., 400 Taunton Street Wrentham, MA 02093; or Wrentham Public Health Nurses, Town Hall, 79 South Street, Wrentham MA 02093. Cremation will be private. Visiting hours will be between 4 and 6 PM on December 5, 2008 at the R.J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South Street, WRENTHAM MA. Words of remembrance from family and friends will conclude visiting hours. Additional information may be found by going to www.rjrossfuneralhomeinc.com

Dear Ravi, Miya, Asha,
We were so very sorry to hear of Sara's passing. She was such a
wonderful gal! Being my second cousin, I didn't get to see her much,
but the times we spent together were such fun and made great memories!
I'm glad she isn't suffering any more,
but please know she touched many
people's lives through her lighthearted spirit and kindness.
We'll all miss Sara.
Our sincere sympathy to her family.
Love, Pam and Bill Steinert

I remember Sara as the most avid reader in our graduating class of North Emery High School 1962. She was always a woman of statuesque beauty and class. Someone to be very proud of.
