I am very sad to hear the news. I worked as a young reporter on the Stoneham Indepedent from 1982-1984. I very much enjoyed working for Frank. I have fond memories of occasionally joining him for a late lunch at the Hilltop after putting the paper to bed. He was one of a kind. My condolences to his family.

As Tiger's godchild, I will always remember his many visits to our house. He had a great sense of humor and always made me laugh. I also have many great memories of the Friday night card games at the Elerin household on Collincote Street. Tiger will be missed.

So sorry to hear of the sad news. I worked for the Stoneham Independent during my High School days in the evenings from 1968-1970. Tiger always had the time to say hello and ask how my day was going. I will remember his laugh, advice and wonderful personality. With heartfelt sympathy. Vicky (Marrone) Cantlin

"Tiger " was an institution in our Town. Athletes, scholars and friends admired his writing and his ability to capture the moment! Some wrote stories for him, some were his stories, he embraced the kids of this Town as his own. I will miss him and prayer his journey was peaceful!

I will always remember "Big Tiger" riding through town with the top down on his convertible. Always, it seems, he had the prettiest cheerleaders aboard. He was our biggest cheerleader. Rest well.

'Tiger' Burns, 'Was' Stoneham, not only for us who played ball in our youth, and praised or ridiculed us in a way that made us want to improve, but also as a close and gracious friend to all of us with whom we shared our precious youth together. I only hope someone, someday, somehow can place all his 'Sports Scoops' together into a book. What a Best Seller that would be. I do hope the Town has some fitting 'Memorial' to remember Tiger as an 'Institution' in our community. Even up to his time of death, he carried his 'old' friends into his older years having lunch once a week with Bill Hoyt, Frank Matarese, John Fawcett, Tony DeTeso and others who absolutely 'cherished' the essence of Tiger Burns. I cried today, openly and with great sadness as Tiger takes with him a wonderful part of our lives in a younger, more personal, and common sense time in which you hit a homerun or pitched a great game, the whole town knew. I personally mourn the loss of Tiger and look forward to meeting him 'Down the Road'. I'll even bring him his 'Clipboard', if I can find it.
No one did it like you friend.. no one. Love you deeply and with thanks 'for the memories' .. Frank 'Lefty' Pignone - Class of 1961

Frank was an insitution in Stoneham, and he will be missed. His sports reporting was the reason we all ran to get the independant. He was an inspiration and role model to three generations of Stoneham high atheletes.

So sorry to hear of Tiger's death. Frank was an institution in Stoneham for so many of us who grew up in the 1940s and '50s. Many of us followed his time during WW2 and then when he was associated with Dick Barnstead's Independent for so many years. He was a great guy and leaves great memories.
