Donald Scott Obituary

SCOTT, Donald J. 88, of North Andover passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Lawrence General Hospital. Mr. Scott was born in Woonsocket, RI to the late Edward F. and Ethel (McArdle) Scott and was a graduate of Lawrence High School and of Suffolk University Law School, Class of 1941 where he earned his Law Degree. Don spent four years in the Army with service in the Pacific during World War II as 1st Lieutenant. On March 3, 1947, Don was appointed special agent of the FBI where he served tours of duty in Memphis, TN, Washington, DC, New York, NY, Boston, MA and senior special agent in Lawrence, MA. While serving in the FBI he received several awards and worked on a number of high profile cases, including the famous Brink's robbery. Don retired from the FBI on December 30, 1977. In 1978, Don was named Outstanding Citizen of Lowell, MA. During his free time Don especially enjoyed golfing with his friends and reading. Donald was the husband of the late Claire V. (Degnan) Scott who predeceased him in 1999. He is survived by his cousins Peter J. McArdle and his wife Therese of Merrimack, NH and Mary Sheila ( McArdle) Neverett and her husband William of Nashua, NH, his niece Suzanne Perrino of Scarborough, ME and nephews John Perrino and his wife Paulette of Auburn, ME and Philip Perrino and his wife Ann of Cape Elizabeth, ME as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. Don is also survived by his very special friend Mary Rita Markham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Friday, December 12th at Noon in St. Michael's Church, North Andover. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover. Calling Hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, NORTH ANDOVER, MA 01845. For those who wish, Donald may be remembered through donations to the Maryland School for the Blind, 3501 Taylor Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21236 or to a charity of one's choice. I am terribly saddened to hear of my oldest friend's death. We were dear friends through all our FBI years and afterwards. I will miss our Christmas day conversations that went on for more years than I can count. Rest in peace dear friend.

Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice for our Country-first when you served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WW II fighting the Japanese and secondly when you served with the FBI.
