James Burroughs Obituary

BURROUGHS, James Francis Died peacefully at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 7, 2008. Jim was born April 17, 1916, in Brighton, Massachusetts. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lois (Martin) Burroughs in 1992. He served honorably in the US Navy during World War II from January 1944-September 1945 as a Radioman, primarily aboard the USS Winston in the Atlantic. He was employed for more than 40 years as a machinist at Wheeler Service in Cambridge, MA and was a member of the United Steelworker's Union. Jim was an avid Boston sports fan who felt very fortunate to finally see the Boston Red Sox win the World Series in 2004! He is survived by his immediate family including his son Gary and daughter-in-law Carol and grandchildren Jennifer and James, all of Raleigh, NC; and his daughter Janet Forbes and granddaughters Rachel and Miranda, all who live in Melbourne, Australia. Jim's grandson James is now wearing his World War II dog tags to honor his grandfather. The family would like to sincerely thank Polly and Patti and the team at Hospice of North Carolina for all of their care and support. In his final months, Jim received wonderful nursing care at home from Sandra Jordan who helped make Jim's final time happy and peaceful and has become a close family friend. Memorial service will be held at a later date in Massachusetts. Online condolences may be sent to [email protected].
