Pauline Kaplan Obituary

KAPLAN, Pauline (Diamond) 101, of Stafford Springs, CT, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at home. She was the widow of Meyer Kaplan. Born in Russia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Diamond. She lived in Stafford Springs since her marriage in 1941. Pauline owned and operated, with her husband, Wasserman's Department Store in Stafford Springs for over 30 years, until they retired in 1974. She was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel of Rockville, CT for over 60 years, and past Matron of Baker Chapter of Eastern Star. She also volunteered at Johnson Memorial Hospital in the Gift Shop for over 25 years. Pauline was the beloved mother of Joanne Pasternack and her husband Saul M. of Bloomfield, CT and Mark W. Kaplan and his wife Regina of Milton, MA. Cherished grandmother of Ira and Seth Pasternack, and Sam Kaplan. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Doris Diamond of West Hartford, CT; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Harry Diamond and by six step-siblings. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to Naana Ansah for her loving care of Pauline for the past 3½ years. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 12, 2008 at 2 PM in Congregation B'nai Israel, 54 Talcott Ave., Rockville, CT with Rabbi Marshal Press officiating. Interment will follow in Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery, South Windsor, CT. Shiva will be observed at the home of her daughter, 20 Burnwood Dr., Bloomfield, CT through Monday evening. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation B'nai Israel, Rockville, CT 06066, or to the Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Dr., West Hartford, CT 06117, or to Temple Israel, Longwood and Jamaica Way, Boston, MA 02115. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, HARTFORD, CT. My condolences to you all and sympathies on your loss. I invite correspondence. I think we are cousins. My grandfather was Bernard Wasserman of Winthrop, MA.
He had sisters in Philadelphia - Chaika and Hanna, I think. There was a branch of cousins with the name of Diamond. Again, condolences to all. And if this rings any bells, please contact me. My sister is Rona and would also be interested.
