Vivian Williams Obituary

WILLIAMS, Vivian Brantley Left us on December 7, 2008, of natural causes. She was born on Oct. 21, 1940, the eldest child to Clifton & Pearl Davis in Savannah, GA. Vivian was educated in Chatham County Public Schools & graduated from The Mather Girls School in Beaufort, SC. Vivian spent most of her professional career in the field of nursing. She attended & received her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Baldwin County Health Institute in Milledgeville, GA. She then began her first nursing position at the Milledgeville State Hospital. There she loved working with the mentally challenged and they in turn loved Nurse Vivian. After her decision to become a registered nurse, she decided she worked in various hospitals, including Hunter Army Airfield Hospital. She worked there until illness forced her premature retirement from the profession. In 1978, she moved the family to Boston, MA & worked many jobs to care for her family. She loved cooking, singing, shopping, & immersed herself in community-oriented activities. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir & worked on the Missionary Board & helped wherever she was needed. She remained active until her health failed her once again and prevented her from continuing on an active level. Though a bit restricted in mobility, she still served on the Task Force at the Codman Housing Building and she was a member of the Bay State Chapter OES of the Hiram Grand Lodge AF & AM. Vivian's husband, Woodrow Williams, preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Vicki Brantley and Karen Lindsey of Boston, MA, and two sons, C. LaRoy Brantley of Milton, MA and Dyshawne Brantley of Newton, MA. She also leaves two siblings, a sister, Dorothy Mallard, and a brother, Roy Davis, both of Savannah, GA. She leaves nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren & a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Her family offers a special "Thank You" to the medical staffs at New England Medical Center & High Gate Manor for providing extended and professional care to her during her hospital stays & recent rehabilitation assignment, & to the St. Elizabeth Hospital's Intensive Care Unit, especially, for rendering unrivaled tenderness during her last moments with us. Services will be held at 11 AM today at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Dorchester, MA and she will be interred at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mattapan, MA.

To Vickie, Laroy, Shawn and Karen,

Words can not express how deeply we are for your loss. Aunt Vivian has now joined her adopted mother and aunt (Mrs. Minnie and Mrs. Lillie) in the upper room to sing a song or two for Jesus. May God strengthen you as you cherish the memories of your mom.

Love ya,

Brenda
