Andrea Irvine Obituary

Of Kennebunkport, ME former Boston, MA benefactor and patron of the arts died on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the age of 66. Andrea is the daughter of Andrew C. & Dolores Pennig of St. Paul, MN and sister to Michael & the late Steven Pennig also of St. Paul, MN. She was a loving mother and grandmother and devoted friend who touched the lives of many. She is survived by her five children, Kevin Richard, John Patrick, Catherine Anne, Andrew Michael & Mary Elizabeth, three grandchildren, Connor Michael, Parker James & Oliver Conrad and by many colleagues and friends. Mrs. Irvine is a graduate of St. Catherine College in St. Paul, MN. Her love of the arts and her sense of style, humor and creativity lead her to become a beloved part of the artistic community of Maine. She opened Carrots & Co., a whimsical gift shop in Kennebunkport, ME. She also has served on many boards, including the Maine College of Art and the Portland Opera. Through her generosity, the River Tree Center for the Arts, a nonprofit community arts organization, was able to move to Kennebunk Lower Village in 2003. Their programs in music and art were expanded to form the Irvine Gallery and the Irvine School of Art, two venues that stress the importance of art and music education through community outreach programs and scholarships. Her vision was to create a central gathering place for the arts, designed for both adults and children, in the community that she loved. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to the Irvine School of Art & Gallery at the River Tree Center for the Arts, 35 Western Avenue, Kennebunk, ME 04043. A private family burial will follow. Arrangements entrusted to Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME. www.bibberfuneral.com

Kevin, John, Kate, Andrew & Molly,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Although it has been about 10 years since I had seen your Mother, we were very close friends and I will always remember her with warmest thoughts.
My deepest sympathy to you all.

Hello to Andrea's dearest children.
I'm one of her friends
as far back girl scout camp and then O.L.P.
I remember her love of her children as one of her true assets. She cared about all of God's children in most endearing ways. It showed in her art, her gift of caring, and warmth as a girl, young mother, and beautiful women all in her own lovely manner.
She shines for us the remaining, in all directions to Our Lord.
My prayers continue for her family.

A very old friend from St. Paul will miss her smile.

Sincerely,
Anne Whalen

Dear Kate, John, Molly, Andrew and Kevin: I am sorry to hear about the passing of your Mother. From what I have read, she touched many lives in a positive way with her love of the arts and that will assure that her spirit will live on in the brush strokes, dances, sculptures and photographs of many for years to come.

I would really love to hear from you all to see what you've been up to all these years. I am still here in MN working in DT St. Paul and making art on the side. My phone # is 651-307-3890.

Sincerely,

Your old step brother,

-Patrick
