On Tuesday, the day after Labor Day, the Needham retired teachers meet for a reunion in Sandwich and Dave has usually attended. On this day we learned of David's death and we were all tremendously grieved. As a colleague for many years, I have appreciated his encouragement and support. He backed me up on every project or special interest I presented to my classes (even when I wasn't sure about what I was about to do!).
From the early days of 8 mm film to the introduction of computer technology-Dave was ahead of the game and brought us along with him. During the last couple of years of my career I developed an idea for the students (fourth graders) to create animated cartoons. Needless to say, I knew nothing about this activity, and mentioned it to Dave. Without a moment's hesitation, Dave not only offered his support, but had his staff work with us to develop the project. He was incredible as an educator, administrator, a generous sharer of his expertise, and most importantly to me, a friend.
My sincerest sympathy to Jane, his family, and friends.
