Robert Whitney "Buddy" Barnard

Robert Barnard Obituary

Of Upper Grand View, NY, formerly of Swampscott and Marblehead died at the age of 47 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of Tracy (Hale) Barnard, and loving son of Delena and Robert W. Barnard of Marblehead, MA. Buddy attended Swampscott schools until his senior year, graduating from Hebron Academy in Maine. He received his bachelors degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. During his working career he earned an MBA from Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. Bud held various management positions with several of the major automobile companies. His present position was as a senior executive with Mercedes Benz at their headquarters in Montvale, NJ. As a member of the National Freight and Transportation Assoc., he traveled extensively throughout the States and overseas. Buddy was a gifted athlete, member of the Marblehead JCC swim team, winner of the President's Cup at the Swampscott Beach Club, and an experienced skier. A true outdoorsman, he surfed the California coast, fished in the Florida Keys, scuba dived in the Caribbean, skied in the New England mountains, rode his Harley to Yellowstone Park, golfed at the Rockland Country Club, but most of all loved cruising the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee on his custom century boat from his family's compound on the lake. Buddy is survived by his devoted brothers Dana Barnard, his wife Robyn, and nephews Stephen and Bryan of Acton, MA and Richard Barnard, his wife Lael and their sons Foster and Harrison of Atlanta, GA. A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Sunday afternoon, September 30 at the Rockland Country Club, Sparkill, NY. Donations in Robert's name may be made to the New Hampshire Lakes Assoc., 3 Silk Farm Rd., Concord, NH 03301, the New England Ski Museum, PO Box 267, Franconia, NH 03580 or the charity of your choice.
