George F. Bent

86, of Andover died Sept 29 at the Lawrence General Hospital. Born in Boston, son of the late John J. and Catherine (McGowan) Bent. George was a WWII Army veteran, a graduate of Boston College and captain of the baseball team. He received the Triple Eagle award. He was the last surviving member of the "Sportscope Gang" a local talk radio show from 1969 to 1986. He also umpired baseball for 50 years. Survived by his wife Ruth (Mahoney) Bent of Andover brother Robert J. Bent of Falmouth, a sister, Sister Eileen Bent, SSND of CT, Mary O'Donnell of West Roxbury, 6 children, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother John Bent and a sister Gertrude Foster.
