Clyde Hicks Obituary

A long time Brewster resident, died Tuesday Oct. 2, 2007 at his home in Brewster, MA. He was 97. Born and raised in Newtonville, MA, Mr. Hicks was a 1929 graduate of Newton High School. He continued his education at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Northeastern University. He married in 1934. His World War II service began in 1943 when Mr. Hicks enlisted in the U.S. Army. Subsequently transferred to the U.S. War Department, he became a Service and Supply Officer with the 1st Army Command and continued in that role until December 1945. His duties included inspecting war material in the northeast United States and Canada which was destined for overseas war theaters. A General Contractor for construction of industrial buildings, Mr. Hicks was a partner of John R. Clark and Associates in Cambridge, MA for twenty four years. He assumed sole ownership for six years prior to selling the company at the time of his 1974 retirement. A long time resident of Auburndale, MA and later Natick, MA, Mr. Hicks became a part time resident of Brewster, MA in 1944. At the time of his retirement in 1974, and until 1995, he and his wife split their time between Brewster & Titusville, FL. In 1995 they became full time Brewster residents. Mr. Hicks was a past Senior Warden of St. John's Episcopal Church in Newton, MA, and had attended the Church Of The Holy Spirit in Orleans, MA. His Masonic affiliations included Norumbega Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Newtonville, MA, Mt. Horeb Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Dennis, MA, 320 Scottish Rite in the Valley of Boston, Aleppo Shriners and the Cape Cod Shrine Club. He had been a member of the Association of General Contractors, the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, a past president and member of the Halliday Acres Assoc., and a Charter Member of the Bass River Rod and Gun Club. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Ohnemus) Hicks in 1999. He is survived by his sister Evelyn Whitaker Bond, her husband James, of Plymouth, and her five children and nine grandchildren. Also, a nephew Kenneth M. Hicks and wife Nancy, of Santa Rosa, CA, their three children and several grandchildren. A funeral service will be held in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Monument Road, Orleans, on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007 at 10am. Visiting hours will be in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Parkway, ORLEANS, MA from 4-7PM on Thursday October 4, 2007. Interment will be private at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. John's Episcopal Church, 297 Lowell Ave., Newtonville, MA 02460, or the Cape Cod Shrine Club Hospital Fund, P.O. Box 846, So. Dennis, MA 02641.
