Of Saugus, formerly of Charlestown suddenly Oct. 10, David R. Beloved husband of Eleanor M. (McGonagle). Devoted father of David R. Downey, Jr. and Kevin J. Downey both of Saugus. Loving grandfather of Colin and Patrick Downey both of Wakefield. Brother of the late William, Edward, Kenneth, Joseph and Thomas Downey and Theresa Anderson. Brother in law of Robert McGonagle of Hawaii, Carol McGonagle of Saugus and the late James McGonagle. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the John H. Sawyer Funeral Home, 329 Bunker Hill St., CHARLESTOWN, Monday Oct. 15 at 9:10 A.M. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Charlestown at 10 o'clock. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8PM. Interment Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45PM. Late Veteran Korean Conflict, US Army. Retired member of Local #799 I.L.A. Parking area opposite Funeral Home.

Kevin & Dave, I worked on roof's with your Dad in the mid '70's when I was dating your Aunt Cathy..............your Dad was a great guy....always helpful

I remember going to your house for X-Mas eve in Charlestown (you guys had bunk beds) and your dad was more excited than you 2 kids for X-mas................Eleanor, God Bless You because now that time has gone bye you were such an outstanding strong woman and Dave was lucky to have had you all those years
