Joanne Goodman Michaels Obituary

50, died at home on Oct. 9 after a long battle with cancer. Ms. Goodman Michaels earned dual (Masters) degrees in Library Science and Education. Serving 18 years at the Boston Public Library, she achieved directorships at some of the largest and most disadvantaged neighborhood branches. She was a dynamic woman with many interests including storytelling, books, art, music, fashion, entertaining, and decorating her Harwich lakeside home. She created a home for six cats and Joey, a little bichon frise; all rescued from area shelters. She is survived by her beloved wife, Robyn Michaels; her huge family of friends, four brothers, and their families. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Freedom to Marry Coalition (equalmarriage.org, 617-482-1600). Friends will gather to remember Joanne, Oct. 18, 5pm, Popular Reading Room, Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston St., Copley Sq., Boston.

I just recently learned of Joanne's death and want to send my heartfelt condolences. Having also lost my wife to cancer, I know how hard this is but also know what a comfort it is when the person we have lost has made such good use of her life--as Joanne did. May that mitigate your grief even a little bit and know that many people you may not even know admired her.
