Arthur Peverly Obituary

86, long-time resident of Kittery, died at York Hospital on October 17, 2007. Born in Melrose, MA, February 5, 1921, to Harry R. & Edith O. (Manning) Peverly, he graduated from Melrose High School (1938) & Northeastern University (1943). He worked at Simplex in Cambridge, Mass. (2 years), General Electric in Lynn, Mass. (2 years), & at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. for the Army (4 years). He returned to Simplex in Newington, N.H., retiring from there in 1984 after 38 years as an engineer. He has since been active in the Simplex (TYCO) Retirees group, and was a member of ASME and SME. He was active in the town of Kittery as Chairman of the Planning Board, worked on many town elections and other town activities. He was named Citizen of the Year in 1992. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Kittery, being Chairman of the Board of Trustees, a member of the church choir, and was helpful in many other church activities. For many years, he and member Varrell Wakefield managed the church Bottle and Can operation, whose proceeds are used to help the needy. He was married to Elaine Buck in May of 1944, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Elaine Peverly and children: Donna Taranko-Moulton and husband Kenneth Moulton of Weston, VT; Craig and his wife Shirley of York; Marcia Peverly of Kittery; & Robert & his wife Jennifer of Northwood, N.H., six grandchildren: Nicholas, Andrew, and Amy Taranko; Christopher, Alyson and Benjamin Peverly, six great-grandchildren, and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Buck of Portsmouth, N.H. Visiting hours will be held Friday, October 26, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the J.S Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, M.E. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 60 Government St., Kittery, M.E., followed by a time of visitation & refreshments in the church vestry. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Kittery, to York Hospital Cardiac Rehab, or to a charity of your choice. Arthur's care has been entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home.
