To the Gowen Family,

Gerry and I spent many a Tues. at lunch. When I had my session in court and when I had an operation at South Shore Gerry waS there. Since I lived 14 years in Weymouth
we both had many stories to share.
He was disappointed that I did not attend his retirement party but no-one told me and I was away when one of his former staff showed up at Mr. Beam to giver me the sad news. The best to all of you,
Jerry Reed

Mr. Gowen arrived at the Montclair Grammar School - First teaching assignment - 6th grade. How starry-eyed we all were at 11 years old. He made it our best year in school. Thanks for the memories. I'm sure he was the most wonderful huband, the best father and a true friend to all who knew him. Please feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends at this time of sorrow.

Boss, mentor, friend, confident, and gentleman are just a few of the words that come to mind when I think of Gerry. I fondly cherish the memories of my years at Merrymount where he truly established a family like atmosphere for the staff, students, and parents.

Mr. Gowen you will be missed! Your cape house has been a part of my family for over twenty years. We always looked forward to seeing you and Mrs. G each summer upon our arrival. You were so kind and generous;and to think that you were my principal at Merrymount Elementary School all those years ago. Gerry was a wonderful boss, a fabulous principal, a great friend, and a strong supporter of his teaching staff. Thanks to Gerry I got my first teaching job with the best faculty there every was. Gerry set the tone for our staff to become a close knit family. I will miss him, yet will always think of him with a smile on my face.
