Was born May 20, 1921 in Carroll County, Georgia, to Pierce Phillips, Sr., and Florida Mabry. He departed his life November 4, 2007. Marion Phillips and Ruby K. Turman were united in marriage February 12, 1944 and together they had 14 children. Marion was a farmer in Georgia and eventually moved his family to North Carolina, where he worked as general contractor on various projects including Chesapeake Bay Bridge, East Carolina University located in Greenville, North Carolina, and Lenoir County Community College. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joshua Phillips, Willie Phillips, Pierce Phillips, Jr., and Aaron Phillips; three sisters, Mary Bell Smith, Katherine Walker, and Lillian Vaughn; sons, Thomas Lee Phillips and James Phillips and one great grandson, Aldrelyne J. Ingram. He leaves to cherish his memories, Ruby K. Phillips, wife of 63 years; seven sons, Curtis L. & Damella Phillips of Villa Rica, Willie S. & Mary Phillips of Columbus, Ohio, Edward E. Phillips, Jerry & Alexis Phillips, Bobby R. & Gillian Phillips all of Carrollton, Dennis L. & Valerie Phillips of St. Petersburg, FL., and Johnny K. & Linda Phillips of Ellenwood, GA.; five daughters, Betty N. & Ned Ingram, Jennie Walker and Teresa Sadberry all of Carrollton, GA., Yvette Phillips and Suzette Phillips of Boston, Mass. He also leaves 30 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. He leaves one sister, Carrie Bell Farris of Douglasville, GA., and one brother, Willie L. Phillips of Geneva, NY. He also leaves to cherish his passing a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 1:00 PM from Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Edward Dunson officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from noon until the funeral hour. Pallbearers will be Curtis L. Phillips, Jr., Kenneth M. Walker, Mario A. Cox, James N. Ingram Jr., Mathew B. Walker, Kevin B. Ingram, Gregory A. Johnson and Willie Phillips, Jr. Interment will follow in West Georgia Memorial Park.
